Pakistan can certainly boost its global image if it gets involved in peace making in the middle east. Again Musharraf is the first leader of Pakistan to suggest such a move.

Pakistan took initiative Saturday to bring about stability to the Middle East - by first attempting to make peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharaf announced during a televised interview with Al-Arabiya that he was willing to act as a mediator between Israel and the Palestinians, saying that would be responsible for a dramatic breaking point that would result in the arrival of a peaceful solution.
Musharaf said that if he were accepted as a neutral mediator by both sides, he could very well succeed. The president said that he was interested in meeting Israelis and Palestinians if they received his offer.
Musharaf called Iran’s developments in uranium enrichment “severe,” adding that the country’s actions could endanger Persian Gulf states. Tehran must gain an understanding towards the international community’s desire to prevent the distribution of nuclear weapons, he added.
Iran has the right to develop nuclear energy, said the Pakistani president, but warned that Iran would be making a mistake if it did not limit its nuclear energy to peaceful purposes.
Musharaf insisted that the world make every effort to avoid a military crisis in the region as a result of its nuclear issues.

I think it's very thoughtful of him, BUT, it could be a PR stunt because the elections are close and well frankly Pakistan has its own problems to think about. Even so, its a more tasteful stunt even if it is one, as expected of a leader as suave as mush. Salute

it may be..but i think..being the only atomic power...all arab countries respect pakistan and its leader..he recently visited 10 countries in a week for this cause and Khadmainai Harmain Shareefain himself received the General at the air port...first time in history...despite of some political and judicial hanky panky of General...he is the best choice to use his influence...as this problem is also the main cause what is happening in our tribal areas...all links are inter-connected...!!!!!

Are things so good in Pakistan that now our President can spend some time solving other people's problems?
We need a "full-time" President for people of Pakistan.
I think Musharraf is looking for grandeur for himself. This idea is only in his own self-interest. It is not helpful for the people of Pakistan

It is naive to think that Qaeda's agenda is solely based on free Palestine. It's agenda is to spread Islam through the use of force, and they will not stop until they have their government over all countries.
Qaeda people hardly ever work against Israel. I don't recall any Qaeda plot against Israel or its interests. Their concern is only America.

but the palestnian issue is one that they use as the major issue to get ppl riled up. I dont recall any extremist jackass outfit or their sympathiser mullahs recruiting ppl to go spread peace in Darfur. Maybe I missed it.

The Reason Arabs get riled up with Israel/Palestine is because Israelis are Jewish and thus fighting Jews is a major factor in why Arabs list Israel/Palestine as their biggest problem. If Israelis were muslim, Druze, Shia or Christian, then it won't be this big issue, but because they are Jewish it becomes this big issue.
As for Musharraf, I think what he is doing is great. If he can do shuttle diplomacy, then a major extremist threat in Pakistan can end as most Arab Terrorists on our border areas are pretty much there to fight America because America supports Israel. And if peace is made, then a major threat is eliminated.

Jews have always lived among Arabs. So there religion is no issue.
Problem is that Israelis are Zionist occupiers who have gathered from all over the world, especially Europeans.

Its because the Israelis are Jewish. When Jews lived with Arabs, they lived as Minorities with very little or no power.
Now that they have their own country, have power and have openly defeated Arabs on the battlefield. This is something that Arabs cannot comprehend.
According to their fictitious translations of the Holy Quran they consider Jews to be pigs and monkeys but how can these creatures defeat the chosen race of God, the Arabs on whom he bestowed Prophet Muhammed and Islam
That is the mindset of Arabs. They consider themselves as God's chosen people and think of Jews as nothing more than pigs and monkeys. But are frustrated that these people have managed to hold on their own.
To explain this, they invent conspiracy theories.
With this kind of mindset, Arabs will never accept Israel nor will they make peace with Israel.
By the way, Jews were already living there before the creation of Israel and during the Ottoman Empire before 1918.
This Jewish gathering is a exaggerated myth. I admit that Jews came from all over the world, but they settled in areas which had a Jewish majority such as the coastal areas and West Jerusalem.
