When he was let go ... unscathed ... that was the height of wisdom ... but if they let him back in ... that will be the most foolish thing they will do ...

He should be let back in the game of thrones only if he is taken to court to answer for his atrocities ... if he wants to save face then he should stay quiet ... my two pence opinion.

Actually, he was. Keeping aside the excruciating few mistakes the guy made, he was undoubtedly a lot better than most of the leaders we've had over a number of years. The Bhuttos or the sharifs don't come anywhere close to what Musharaf has achieved for Pakistan.

Now if the question was, who would I vote for in the upcoming elections. I'd personally opt for IK to see where he lands us, if he doesn't fulfill the endless promises he's made. I'd have no issues choosing Musharaf for a 2nd term.

This is however just my opinion.

And what precisely is Zardari getting us into, bed of roses? BB did better? NS did?

But then again, what I said was just an opinion. Something we're totally entitled to, unless anyone suggests otherwise. And nor was I particularly seeking for any arguments over it, instead just felt the need to voice up with an obvious voice of someone else.

Who is to blame for Pakistans downfall? is it Zardari? No because Pakistan had problems before that! Is it Musharaf. No because Pakistan had problems before that. The arguments will take us back to 1947 if not even earlier.

When Musharaf took power and until 2006 there was quite a bit of improvement in Pakistan, not sure for the poor though as basic commodity prices were increasing rapidly.

I give credit to Musharaf on the fact that :-

  1. he improved our road network and imrpoved existing ones
  2. pakistani graduates from abroad could go back to pakistan and get decent jobs there
  3. corruption dropped in the first part of his rule
  4. he opened up gwadar and turbat in balochistan with the mekran coastal highway
  5. introduction of schemes to encourage sindhi and baloch youth to join the army.
  6. technology spread
  7. the media opened up

however, after 2006 whatever good had happened was washed away:-

  1. his quest for power eant he was arresting members of the lawyers movement and civil society whilst taliban were taking over districts in pakistan - not only has he alienated the right wing but the left wing
  2. swat, fata and other areas were falling out of government control - chickens were coming home to roost.
  3. the murder of Bugti alienated the baloch
  4. the murder of benazir alienated the sindhis.
  5. the mqm grew under him ad unleased their real face again on may 12 2007.
  6. he made deals with corrupt people
  7. his greed for power ledt to both twice deposed bhutto ad sharif surge in popularity.
  8. he gave pakistan away to america

He was a leader who did a lot for Pakistan, much more than the development Sharif or BB had ever done. However, the flip side was that he gave a lot of damage to Pakistan.

Personally there are many aspects of his rule I liked alot but also dislike. I do not wish he ever comes back to Pakistan again unless he has large portions of his assets confiscated and given to the poor and needy. He is a nobody and he has no chance of electoral success. He is a fugitive and very biased.

hahaha. Good observation. The rally was arranged by Paasban (youth wing of JI), but the aunty did a good show.. I must say she should try her luck writing speeches for election campaigns. :slight_smile:
