I thought it is desi secret, nobody outside the Indopak knows about it. Boy I was wrong. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it:
Murga (also spelled murgha) is a form of punishment mostly used in the Indian subcontinent, i.e India, Pakistan, etc. Murga means “Adult male chicken” in Hindi. This is a punishment in which the punished person takes the position of a “murga”. This is done by squatting, and then bringing the arms between the legs and firmly holding the ears. It can be very painful after a few minutes. Murga can also be used as a position for spanking, thought it is rarely used.
There are many variants of the murga punishment. Some of them are:
Standing murga
Sitting murga
Murga parade
Heels touching murga Standing Murga
In standing murga, the ass of the person should be held as high as possible. This is considered a severe punishment and can get very very painful after 10 minutes. The picture shown above is the standing murga. Where is the photo?
Sitting Murga
In sitting murga, the person is allowed to rest his ass on his arms, i.e the ass can be brought down. This milder than the standing murga, and can be bearable for longer durations. This punishment is given when administrator wants make a person for ling time.
Murga Parade
In murga parade, the person in addition to being in murga position, has to walk. It can be either standing or sitting murga. However, more distance can e covered if it is done in standing murga. This can be extremely tiring for both legs, hands and back. This punishment can be made harsher by making the person to parade under the sun. If done properly, it will hurt the ears also, because of irregular movements.
Heels Touching Murga
In this type of murga, the heels of the person should remain in contact. It can also be either sitting or standing. This is a very severe form of murga.
I laughed so much after reading "Murgha Parade" that I have water in my eyes.
I remember the punishments. I've been all kinds of murgha except the parade murgha. I have seen that parade but I can't recall if it was our class or some other class that I saw taking a trip in the school.
This is prompting me to open another "Question for girls" threads........but I will simply ask the question here:
*Girls: In my co-ed school, they didn't punish girls this way. However, when I moved to an all-boy school, guys being murgha was an everyday thing; if not because of homework, then because of noise. Do they have "murghiyan" in all-girls schools as well? *

In my co-ed school they did not punish even the boys this way. co-ed schools were normally private schools so they normally did not use the desi style of punishments.
The desi girls in desh are so mild mannered that they did not need any severe kind of punishments to keep them in line. I never heard any reciprocal Murghi punishment of Murgha for girls.

My co-ed school was private as well but we had some boys who were older than their class-age (in late teens while in 8th grade) and the teachers were very young (in 20s). So they needed the punishment to keep those dudes in line.
