India today handed over to Pakistan its evidence linking the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks with elements in that country. Aiming to pile international pressure on Pakistan to ensure its concrete cooperation in punishing the perpetrators of the attacks, India is also sharing the evidence with countries across the world. Will Pakistan need more proof? How should Pakistan now respond to all the proof provided by India.
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher on Jan. 5 said evidence gathered on the Mumbai attack is “clear that the attackers had links that lead to Pakistani soil,” KUNA reported. Boucher called on India and Pakistan to cooperate in investigating the attack. He also praised Pakistan’s efforts to crack down on suspected elements involved in the attack, saying such actions show that Pakistan is committed to rooting out sources of terrorism in the country. Boucher made the statements after meeting with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmoud Qureshi in Islamabad.
The documents given to Shahid Malik, Pakistan’s high commissioner in New Delhi included material from the interrogation of the sole surviving gunman, who is in Indian custody.
Details of the terrorists communication links with ‘elements’ in Pakistan during the attack, recovered weapons and equipment, and data retrieved from recovered GPS and satellite phones" have also been handed over to Pakistan, a foreign ministry statement declared.
India said it now expected the Pakistani government to ‘promptly undertake further investigations and bring the perpetrators to justice’.
Foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee said: “As far as the government of Pakistan is concerned, we ask only that it implement the bilateral commitments that it has made at the highest levels to India”
Mukherjee said the evidence on the Mumbai attacks would be shared with other governments including the US, Britain, China and EU member States.
Security sources said the dossier included precise details of the Mumbai attackers LeT ‘handlers’ operating from near a Pakistani army camp in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the North West Frontier Province.
It also featured taped conversations that indicated the possible complicity of some Pakistani security agencies including the military Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), a claim Islamabad has denied.
The dossier is also believed to assert that the attackers were provided commando training by retired Pakistani Special Forces personnel.

They will respond by issuing a denial. Or maybe if the American pressure gets too much they will act out a sham of putting some people under house arrest, only to turn around and say two weeks later that the people they put under house arrest are not in Pakistan.

Luckily for my government, everyone other than Pakistan thinks the proof is "adequate". But the Pakistani leadership is in denial, as always.

Pakistan has already found lapses in the dossier formulated with the help of FBI and Scotland Yard.:) HANDLE THIS - When Asab, the lone terrorist, survivor was caught India went to UNSC to impose a ban on JuD. Pak agreed for full support and next day Pak's PM said the JuD's chief is under seize. From that time onwards there were garbled messages about the seize of JuD's chief. Same is the case with identity of Asab. His father claims he is my son but your govt. says give proof. First Nawaj Sharif vindicated this statement but later ate his own words. Plus Pakistan is not comfortable with a DNA test! You people close your eyes and ask us to show the proof!

Ya very true. Your right honourable former PM had initially agreed that the surviving terrorist is a Pakistani. It was sad that he had to retract his words.
I dont know how many years it would take your govt to agree that these terrorists were Pakistanis. If you remember correctly it was initially claimed that the Kargil operation was not conducted by army regulars. After some years, Mush make a volte face and confirmed that army regulars were indeed involved in the operation.

^ Nice attempt at subterfuge. As has been pretty evident since 26/11, every time there is a "danda" from Uncle Sam, Pakistanis start acting. Indian govt has done a very smart thing by a) making a fool proof case & b) routing it through USA. Pakistan can cry all they want about not getting to see the proof first.
Zardari is coming to Washington this month. Lets see what "danda" he gets from the new administration. I am sure their tune is going to change only after that.
