Nobody was as it is an issue of being electable. Though looking at dawn's background of the seat it has changed hands/parties every 4 years consistently.
MMA won there during Musharraf's era, which was interesting.

He will be asked to remain independent and not join PTI for two reasons.
IK doesn't like his background, it was SMQ's swift move to seize the opportunity which IK agreed to.
(a. Shredding other two Makhdooms in Multan b. Gauging Dharna effect in JH and PMLN's home ground with proxy support)
If PTI didn't resign, then they don't want to lose this seat in the process accidentally.
