Mukhtar Mai

MIRWALA, PAKISTAN: Picture taken 31 August 2004, shows Mukhtar Mai holding a book in Mirwala, 460 kilometers (285 miles) south of Islamabad. Women in Pakistan are subjected to brutal “honour” punishments from acid-burning to rape and murder, and archaic laws too often protect their attackers. Mai, who survived a jury-ordered gangrape has embarked on a personal mission to eradicate the ignorance she blames for such practices, by educating illiterate girls and boys. The woman is really strong to move forward in her life despite what happened to her. All that clamor Islam Islam Islam on this board really ought to be looking at cases like these and then asking themselves why the muslim ummah is facing such big problems. Like I always say, we have brought it on ourselves.

PCG if the jurors that decided her punishment knew just a little bit about Islam, this would have not happened. Its total ignorance. But I am sure that she is strong that she went through all that and after that reported the case. Usually alot of cases like these dont get reported as the jurors have the backing of the local leaders of the village.

I'm talking about the broader picture. The people responsible for the crime were obviously ignorant of Islam, or knowingly decided to go against it.

However, on a broader scale, would incidents like this be happening if muslims were fighting against the wrong-doings and injustices within their society rather than screaming over what other non-muslim countries are doing to them?

Its so easy to point fingers. But its quite hard to clean up your own backyard.

That is exactly what the flag bearers of Islam need to do. Well said PCG.

Islam is a religion of justice and, when properly implemented, cannot allow the spread of injustice in the society.

may allah punish those who commit injustice to women just because they are weak.

how irnoic is it that now people call for jihad against these scums in our society but when taliban were in afghanistan banning trading women like property, buying and selling women and child sex slaves, and rooting out prostitution and gang rapes, people were screaming about women rights. islam has the best solution to those people yet people fail to realize. in the islamic law of qisas, if any one throws acid over a girl he would be punished in equal manner, imagine how quick the acid throwing incidents would end as soon as couple of guys get acid on their faces after jumah prayer in front of all to see. or how quick the gang rapes would end when the rapists are stoned to death. or when people who accuse chaste women of adultry get lashed and branded liar for the rest of their life.

Yes, the Taliban were doing all that, but not by education or fighting ignorance, but by keeping women inside homes at all times and not allowing them to work or go to school.

Sure, those laws you mention work in theory, but in a male dominated society that will never ever happen.

may allah punish those who commit injustice to women just because they are weak.

What????

Because they are weak? Wha...uh...I...urgh!!!!!

Men!

Taliban were good in some ways as they brought crime rate and specially producing drugs to almost zero. But at the same time they were enforcing religion which is not good at all. Even prophet Mohammad(pbuh) never forced his followers. He would just tell the good and bad and let them decide what they want to do. But you are right in the fact that Islam does provide the best solution.
PCG I dont think he meant what he wrote.
But i hope that the people responsible for this act get the worst punishment and are made an example for people to come.

and we r assuming that no muslim has spoken against such acts????
or that muslim scholars ignore such things????

In all the times I have been to mosques, both here in the US and Pakistan, I have never once heard anyone talk about such things. Matters of domestic violence and likes are just plain ignored.

well i meant in a way that since we know a lot of stories of abuse against women by their spouces but not much about husbands being beaten it can be assumed that women are weaker in terms of physical strength. and even in biology, we can see that since testosorome is the main building block of muscles and it is more common in males we can assume the women are weak. i didnt mean it in any bad way...

I would not say it is because they ARE weak, but because they've been conditioned to be weak.

Put these ladies in self-defense classes, and they'll kick butt.
