watched the story on World News last night.
Firstly, there isn't a complete implementation of shariah in Sudan, so I cant see how they can even consider to take out such a punishment.
Secondly, the teacher DID teach in a Christian school back in England, surely she must have known his importance in our religion. The news report did mention something about her having learnt about the cultural sensitivity and yet she managed to miss this one? Come on! The Principal of the school in Sudan did say she was extremely naive...

there is a big difference between realization and knowledge. you might have the knowledge but no realization, as you don't have no idea what exactly you are discussing!
majority is not muslim, but majority must know, especially TEACHERS of Muslims and Jews being iconoclasts.

well i also mentioned the same thing in my earlier posts that she said it its an innocent mistake and as a muslim we should have left it right over there.
but morally speaking she should know about this thing as she is going to Muslim country. but u cant neglect the fact that media is giving it more hype (jaisay baki sari dunia to chain ke bansari baja rahi hai)

Although she asked children to pick names, Muhammad was likely the name she wanted to end up with. Whether she knew it was illegal or not is legally immaterial.
People are doing time for more ridiculous charges than this in the US, but this kind of "injustice" makes it to news and films only when victims are Americans or British.
Remember, the Midnight Express (1978), which portrays a horrific image of Turks and shows a young American caught smuggling drugs out of Turkey as victim. Movie never conveys that Billy Haynes was a regular drug smuggler, who was under the DEA watch in Mexico, and it was the Americans in the first place who tipped off the Turks, and the only reason Turkey gave him a 30-year prison term was because US had been pressuring Turkey into getting tough on drugs trafficking to the west.
