At most homes of desi people in West I go to, it is norm that everybody takes their shoes off at the door before entering the living area. The most obvious reason is that we pray namaaz anywhere and everywhere in our home and we do not want outside filth to come inside the home.
Even most of the Westerners will try to follow our cue and take their shoes off. But I met someone recently who is a Pakistani Muslim , he was mad at someone for asking him to take his shoes off at the door. He has even named that friend Mr. Take -Your - Shoes - Off.
Mirch - i agree with taking shoes off before you come into the living areas. Thats what happens at my parents place as that place is clean and is used to read namaaz. I wouldnt like anyone NOT taking their shoes off!! I would actually ask them to..
Now that I have to clean up so much - I think the best place for shoes is outside.
Before when in high school and college - I just did not understand what's the big fuss about having your shoe removed... cause I was always like - hmmmm - my shoes are clean - even though I would have walked all over the world with 'em.
This is probably the complex at the back of their head of such dudes… you know people come with a lot of baggages at their back and then, pre-conceived notion that “gora” might not like it hence, let’s pretend to be equivalent to gora faraNgi :halo:
A- if they are not ready to take their shoes off when entering my house ..
B- if they like to wear extra long pants that go about cleaning the street when they walk..
I simply slap them and dont let them in… rude it may seem but they should understand the difference between filth and hygience.. what say ?
well yes it is the norm, but then generally those homes are wall to wall carpeted, usually in light shades so its common sense to take shoes off, instead of tracking mud all over the house! i have noticed, homes with wooden floors/tiles don't have such rules (even desi ones) I for one don't want ppl wearing shoes in the living room 'cause my kids play/crawl so its a hygiene issue too
**Wall to wall carpet ka zaman jab nahi tha tab bhi tu jooty ghar ky andar tak jaty thy koi namaz ka masla nahi hota tha. Muslim culture ye nahi. Allah ki panah rehna sehna hi mushkil kerty ja rahy hain Islam ka nam ly ker.
