MQM has announced to hold a public referendum on November 8th to determine whose Pakistan people want: Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan or Taliban’s Pakistan?
It’s a countrywide referendum in which exapts can also participate through MQM’s website while votes could also be cast through emails.
Zia-ul-Haq and Musharraf had earlier arranged referendums in 1984 and 2002 respectively. The questions put forward in those referendums were sure to fetch a yes. MQM’s question in its public referendum does not seem to be an exception. If the Taliban also vote, only they will stamp option of Taliban’s Pakistan, otherwise we know what everyone would be saying.
Why MQM needed to hold such a referendum whose result is so obvious and how will it help the country? Isn’t a consensus already there that everyone wants Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan?
charm-e-qurbani, bhat-ta, zakat, kherat, sadqa (that MQM workers often insist should go in the same box since it's for the "same" purpose) etc. will cover the cost.
I have heard that Zardari is soon holding his own referrendum "Whether we want corruption in Pakistan or not".
This is the pathetic dramay baazi from MQM. Off course everyone knows what Pakistan we want, is MQM really doing anything positive to make it Quaid e Azam ka Pakistan?
Instead of having Quaid e Azam's picture on banners, they had Altaf's pictures and question was "Taliban ka chhayie ya Quaid ka"? Dramay baazi tou theek se kar lou pehlay.
Altaf Bhai learnt these tactics of asking questions that have only one obvious answer, from his father, General zia. Remember his question?
'Whether the people of Pakistan endorse the process initiated by General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, the President of Pakistan, for bringing the laws of Pakistan in conformity with the injunctions of Islam as laid down in the Holy Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and for the preservation of the Islamic ideology of Pakistan, for the continuation and consolidation of that process, and for the smooth and orderly transfer of power to the elected representatives of the people.’
That is a good idea. It put figure on the public opinion. Also it helps create a healthy public mindset. Based on the results parties can decide their strategies.
Also, the statistics will end once for all the silly confusion some people talk about in talk shows.
Any involvement of public in a democratic process is always good. The initiating party may have its vested interest but then again, who cares, it is still a good thing.
