The establishment is forcing MQM factions to unite under the military patronage of Parvez Musharraf. I don’t think it’s a bad idea. For development of muhajirs and Karachi, it’s important that they cooperate with the establishment.

When Pakistan was created in 1947, Quaid-e-Azam sent special flights and trains to bring qualified and skillful muhajirs from India who were to fill the bureaucracy. This happened because Punjabis, Sindhis and the rest in Pakistan were less educated and had no experience of running state affairs.

Muhajirs always believed in Muslim nationhood, as they were the leaders of Pakistan movement. But Sindhis, Pashtoons in particular forced this refined community to leave Muslim nationalism and adopt ethnic identity.

The birth of MQM was justified, Altaf Hussain wasn’t wrong in the beginning. He was only cornered by the Punjabi establishment so as to break the muhajir strength.

As usual, despite being given everything, playing the ungrateful ‘victim’ card.

Actually ‘everything’ was taken by Punjab after blackmailing and oppressing Bengalis and finally kicking them out of Pakistan. Don’t forget that it was Bengal where All India Muslim League was created, and it was Bengal who not only gave its vote to Pakistan Movement in 1937 elections but in 1945-46 elections it was Bengal whose mandate put forth the creation of Pakistan.

Punjab gave only one vote to Pakistan Movement in 1937 elections and it was only forced to vote for Pakistan (in 1945 - 46) when the Punjabis realised that Muslim majority Pakistan would benefit them, and not India.

In Hindu majority United India, Punjabis would be serving their Sikh and Hindu masters and would only be making a considerable force of Indian Army without this much progress that’s owed to Pakistan and Pakistan alone.

Muhajir community of Pakistan can’t be grateful as our rights were confiscated by Sindhis, Pashtoons as well as Punjabis.

The natives of present Pakistan (Punjabis, Pathans, Sindhis) got rid of Bengalis (the forerunner of Pakistan Movement) and have suppressed Muhajirs (the offspring of founding fathers of Pakistan).

I never said I was proud of begging or extortion hehe, and you evaded my comment when I said bhatta and badmashi is common in Punjab as well. MQM is not worse than Punjabi thugs (criminal gangs) in the Punjab province.

Generally masses among all communities including Punjabis, Muhajirs, Sindhis, Baloch and Pashtoon are not treated well in Pakistan.
