PBA slams blackout of TV channels

KARACHI: Private television channels, including Geo News, remained off-air for several hours on Saturday in most parts of the metropolis and elsewhere in the interior of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sukkur and Nawabshah.
Scores of phone calls were received from different areas about the unavailability of the Geo News broadcast. Besides, the telecast of Aaj TV and ARYONE World were also shut down. The transmission of Geo and other TV channels were suspended around 5pm.
Rumours were rife that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement bade the cable operators to shut down the telecast. The cable operators were allegedly asked to keep the telecast off-air until the end of the chief justice’s rally…
The Muttahida claims that the blackout of private TV channels was not by them, but the result of anger from the people due to the ‘dishonest’ coverage by the TV channels. :clown:

..The PBA is also surprised why the people are being blamed by the Muttahida when there has been no public outburst or agitation and yet a systematic move was clearly evident in areas of the blackout: Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Nawabshah, and Mirpurkhas — all Muttahida-dominated areas.
The PBA recalled that this is not the first time that cable operators have been forced to off-air channels in Pakistan, with the regulatory body Pemra, conveniently standing on the sidelines helplessly and passing the responsibilities for such blatant action on others.
..Earlier, Member Muttahida’s Rabita Committee Mustafa Azizabadi said the party has nothing to do with the closure of the private TV channels. In a statement issued here from London, he said the closure of channels was a result of people’s reaction to “journalistic dishonesty”.

Don't blame Muhajirs to support MQM thugs; a big number of them supporting them doesn't mean their majority is with them, a big number of Muhajirs support religious forces (not necessarily religious political parties), only that they are not gathered in contituencies, they are scattered, there is another silent majority of Muhajirs which doesn't support Racist Altaf. Count the total Muhajir Population in Karachi against Total Number of Votes which MQM gets by force and forgeries. Muhajirs are those suffered the most at the hands of these Underworld Mafia of MQM. Altaf Husain is a true replica of Laaloo Prasaad Yadev of Bihaar, India.

KHAR, Pakistan, May 5 (Reuters) - **Some 200 gun-toting Islamist militants smashed car cassette players and mobile phone cameras on Saturday and ordered tribesmen in a Pakistani region to grow beards, part of a drive to impose Taliban-style values. **
The militants took up positions beside a road near Khar, the main town of Bajaur tribal region in northwestern Pakistan, and stopped and searched passing vehicles, witnesses said.
“They smashed cassette players running music and mobile phones fitted with cameras,” a driver whose vehicle was searched told Reuters.
Radical Islamists deem music and pictures un-Islamic.
The driver, who did not want to be named, said the militants also urged clean-shaven tribesmen to grow beards.
A government official in Bajaur confirmed the incident but did not say whether authorities planned any action against the militants.
Pakistan’s lawless tribal belt, bordering Afghanistan, is known as a hotbed of support for the militants and critics say the government’s influence there has weakened considerably since the authorities signed peace deals with the militants.
Progressive Pakistanis have become increasingly shocked by the boldness with which religious radicals are spreading their influence in other parts of the country and have demanded firm action by the government against them.
On Friday, militants attacked music shops with explosive devices in the town of Charsadda in neighbouring North West Frontier Province (NWFP), destroying at least five.
Last month, burqa-clad female students of an Islamic school or madrasa raided a brothel in the capital, Islamabad, and abducted three women for three days.
**The top cleric of the mosque linked to the madrasa later threatened suicide attacks **if the government used force to stop his movement.

Apparently the shut down was in MQM influenced areas. They are still investigating. Anyway the service has been resumed now.
The burden is on you guys to prove, as it was you alleged it on MQM.

Well, what you can at least say is that it is not proven whether it was MQM thugs who did it.
