Army can't bring any change. Recalling it will only further complicate matters. All Karachi needs is a bigger and better police force without any political influence. Train them, facilitate them and set them free. Easier said than done I know, but it is THE only solution.
yup, the buck stops at the desk of the Law Enforcement Agencies...they have enuf rights to even arrest the most powerful!

I believe ground reality is changed. Bhatta or chanda from MQM or in some areas by people of ANP ( will not call them ANP members as it is pure localized fenomina not a party act) is not a big worry to business men. All records are broken by lyari gang war people. n they expend to most parts of khi not limited to vicinity of lyari only.
There is a project in korangi area by Saima builders n many people visiting the place ( before eid ) were being looted by the vary group. Same is the story for port grand
Business men are reverting to MQM and ANP local bhatta / chanda takers to support but to no avail. Infact most of the people being kipnapped are either put in lyari or in mangho pir.

The politics behind this demand. As far as what I have read between the lines MQM wants operation against PAC, TTP/LEJ, MQM-H and others. If the city has to be rid of this violence (once for all) MQM’s criminals will also have to be taken out. Will the party take that lying down? Obviously, there was lot of politics behind the move. The MQM is going through an intense crisis. Altaf Hussain confronts serious criminal cases in London and the party is, in the words of Khursheed Shah, in “internal turmoil.” All of this could not have come at a worst time when, after 13 years, the MQM is out of power in Karachi as well as Islamabad. The glory of the MQM was of course the Musharraf era. The inmate of Chak Shahzad’s seven-star jail pampered the MQM in the hope that this might ensure his future security in future politics. Asif Zardari carried the baggage along. All of this has suddenly come down to a grinding halt for the MQM.
It’s obvious that the MQM, instead of adjusting to new realities, plays a desperate hand to invent leverage. “The MQM will rather call in Army than sit outside the power circle,” Khursheed Shah said without mincing words. Throwing the baby along with bath water, goes the cliché.
However, the retired general in Ghulam Qadir Baloch reminded the MQM about the consequences of the army rule. This meant Martial Law in Karachi with all fundamental rights suspended. And this came from a general who had practiced this under Musharraf in Balochistan and, many say, with ruthless abundance. It was a not a case of Army being called in aid of civilians but to control an explosive situation under Article 245 (3), which debars the High Court from interfering. The mere thought of it was scary.

Don't look at who is saying it. Look at what is being said. If MQM becomes a toast during army deployment then it should be even better for everyone else. If this is the case then everyone else should also be supporting army's deployment.
MQM demanding army and PPP (and parties from the rest of Pakistan) opposing it, proves that MQM is not behind the city's destruction. It is Sindh government. The rest of Pakistan is supporting Sindh government in destroying the city.
I wonder what happened to his arrest by Scotland Yard police in murder of Imran Farooq and money laundering of half a million pounds in cash and other expensive jewelry stolen from people of Karachi? He should have been in jail by now. As soon he goes to jail, 80 to 90% of Karachi will be in peace. It is he who has ruined Karachi for so many decades. No need of army in Karachi.

Whatever MQM or AH did or doing is same old story repeating time by time!! This political move of MQM give them quite fresh breaths in this crucial moments as business community totally on same page, other hand this call gives a huge pressure to ppp govt as a Latkti hoi Governor Raj ki talwar. The ball is now in ppp court and how fast and quick they restor the law and order situation which is the base of this movement.

No one has killed as many as the MQM in Karachi. Karachi will not be at peace unless this criminal gang in tackled. Start with the biggest killers, than go after the smaller fish.

they just want nobody to touch them, no matter what they do. they have been laadlay or army we all know, specially during mush era they enjoyed army’s support a lot. now they are sort of yateem, for few months and don’t know how to handle this. so they are asking their fathers in army to come and rescue them

Any operation in Karachi will have to include MQM's miscreants as well, and when that happens the party would be in the streets playing victim. This was exactly what I thought while opening this thread, if Karachi has to be cleaned it needs an across the board operation (and not that which favors particular parties which are part of the problem). MQM should develop the confidence to allow the law enforcement agencies to clean up the city once for all if they are serious in it.

i think they can do that, not a biggie. in early days probably they didn't have as good a network through out country as they have now. If we ignore the possibility to fled the country, they still have enough places to hide their hardcore terrorists along with arms. they have bought supporters in AJK, Chitral, GB, South Punjab, Sakkar, Nawabshah etc. they can buy time with R*i Rona get prepared and then agree with an across the board cleansing only to return after Army goes back.
Situation will not improve unless police force is completely re-structured. there tooo many political influence in police, and I believe in Rangers to some extent as well. Any operation will only work if its performed by an outsider force with no existing rangers/ army/ police command involved in critical planning and execution, and restructuring of Police force ground up with outsiders injected within here and there. And future inductions in police must be apolitical

cant happen, they want control of the city. MQM is not in power for the first time in decades.

Try relating this with Farooq Sattar and Altaf Hussain making noise on last nights arrests. Or they want another NRO and clean chit for the crimes already committed to give up the arms? if that is the case, why discriminate why not give this option to PAC? and by extended logic to TTP and other Terrorists?
