And when that happens they’d be the first on the streets protesting.

Army in Karachi: Khursheed Shah opposes MQM demand – The Express Tribune
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
I don't think it's a matter of a laugh!!
It's a very serious and sensetive issue. Comment about it seriously or just skip the thread.
Sattar have points in his speech. And personally I think that central govt do not proceed it to put army in action but this appeal might be give pressure to sindh govt to take Karachi situation more seriously and do extra prompt actions to solve and get off from their hands to protect criminals Specially in Liyari area.

Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
Normally I'd oppose army taking over any city but I'll support MQM over this but then MQM should be ready for its big chunk of activists to be arrested and prosecuted, they should not cry foul when that happens because lots of MQM workers are involved in all sorts of crimes, so should be PPP, ST and PTI (if rumors of them being involved are true).
City is completely out of hand, parchi / bhatta-khori / kidnap-for-ransom / mobile-snatching-killing are peaking and police at large is involved or supporting all these crimes. Until and unless major changes are carried out in police, judiciary in Karachi / Sindh only army can provide temporary relief.
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
FATA makes sense because it is at the border and there is no police due to our f**Ked up FCR regulations that should have been abolished long ago, but why does karachi need army when it has police and paramilitary rangers? Not only does it overstretch the army, but does that mean we fire all the police and rangers since army is doing their job?
Army's record has been mixed as well, otherwise terrorism would have been defeated, so I don't know what wonders can army do in karachi considering the fact that unlike the british army, the paindoos running the army have no brain cells to learn from their mistakes and develop a true COIN strategy. It took the army multiple setbacks against TTP (FC getting captured / surrendering to taliban) before the army "figured out" that SSG should have been dropped on TTP's head instead of trying to come by road so TTP can shoot away at you from the mountain tops. This sort of BS is unacceptable in true civilized countries.

Current police is part of problem. The whole police system/institution needs a thorough shake-up, reform because the current lot is totally useless. The police needs to be independent institution so it can't be pressured by political parties. For now army will be able to bring sanity to the city, but police must be reformed in parallel, only army will not be a solution.
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
I dont understand the motive of MQM for inviting the army. If they want them to restore law and order in the metropolitan city, it will have to operate against all parties which are involved in terrorism there (which include MQM, Amn Committee, Taleban, LEJ, Sunni Tehreek and others). MQM is part of the problem in the city, not the solution...
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
But MQM thinks that barring some "bad apples" who are probably ex-MQMers, it is naik paak saaf farishta.

That is exactly that they are hoping for, that for some reason army will give clean chit to MQM workers but will arrest terrorists from Amn Committee, ST, LeJ, TTP, ANP etc.

Yep, and when an operation will be carried out and their workers will be arrested they will cry foul.
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
lolz NS will never agree, uss ko apni fikr par jani ha
by the way the present circumstances demand army there if they can clean Sindh, but its not matter of few years it is a long process but we really need peace there, ppl like me who visited Karachi only in childhood don’t want to go there, my huby maternal side lives in Karachi I didn’t let him go, and there are many ppl like me who dont want to go there, I wish we can go to any part of our country without fear ![]()
but present circumstances suggest as if terrorists are entering in Punjab also, so I don’t think so tht you will give whole country under army, its high time of government to do something about it, abhi sirf MQM ne kaha you never know kal sub parties bol rahin ho
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
Army is not the solution especially in a big metropolitan city like Karachi. They will get bogged down there. Its upto the politicians to sit together and get us out of this menace. Empowering/Depoliticizing the police is the only way out. Its about time we learnt to live and let live.
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
you know it could just be reverse psychology stunt by tafu bhai

Time has proven that politicians are NOT sitting together. They are NOT getting us out of this menace. They are NOT empowering/deploticizing the police.
The city can not let be destroyed due to the failure of politicians. There are not just political parties and workers living there, but there are also common people, common business owners, living there as well. What is their fault that they have to bear the brunt of the failure of Sindh government?
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
People are dying, businesses are shutting down … and you are laughing?!
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
Don’t look at who is saying it. Look at what is being said.
If MQM becomes a toast during army deployment then it should be even better for everyone else. If this is the case then everyone else should also be supporting army’s deployment.
MQM demanding army and PPP (and parties from the rest of Pakistan) opposing it, proves that MQM is not behind the city’s destruction. It is Sindh government.
The rest of Pakistan is supporting Sindh government in destroying the city.
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army

NOT laughing at the situation...i was laughing at the stupidity shown by Altaf...he is the one who is gonna suffer the most at the hands of the army yet he wants the army in the city like he did in the nineties (?).
he wants to stay relevant in case he gets arrested by the British authorities for inciting hate and money laundering. he wants to play victim once again in order to stay relevant.
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
I'll only support this if they put Punjabi forces in not just the nearest ones in the area ...
I think he might have sympathisers in the local troops.
Re: MQM demands Karachi to be handed over to the Army
Army can't bring any change. Recalling it will only further complicate matters. All Karachi needs is a bigger and better police force without any political influence. Train them, facilitate them and set them free. Easier said than done I know, but it is THE only solution.
