MQM backs ANP proposal to change Pak name

Updated at: 2215 PST, Wednesday, November 18, 2009
KARACHI: Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Parliamentary leader of the MQM Dr Farooq Sattar said Awami National Party (ANP) put up a proposal to change the name of Pakistan, which the MQM has supported.

He said the ANP gave this proposals to the Committee for Constitutional Reforms that Pakistan’s name be changed from Islamic Republic of Pakistan to People’s Republic of Pakistan.

Farooq Sattar also hoped that the Committee on Constitutional Reforms will give good news at the commencement of new year.

He said the proposal was tabled that Gilgit-Baltistan should be given a status of fifth province and it should have representation in NFC Award.

Is there any reason for that???

Cheap butt-kissing to America, to show they are 'non-islamic', thus they will not be fundamentalists

Re: MQM backs ANP proposal to change Pakistan's name

Re: MQM backs ANP proposal to change Pakistan's name

Pakistan was never made in the name of Islam. I fully support the change of Name to Republic of Pakistan.

Re: MQM backs ANP proposal to change Pakistan's name

I suggest a new name.... why not make it United States of Pakistan..... that would be better ass licking I guess..

I guess thats much direct but still some of american fellows will say why not making it a state

so let Pakistan be a state of america :D

I mean just be total baighairat :D

Re: MQM backs ANP proposal to change Pakistan's name

Anyone is free to propose a change, it is the people of Pakistan who will ultimately decide the fate of the name change. Such an important issue cannot be decided without a referendum. All you people deriding others remind me of what Iqbal said:

Masjid toh bana dee shab bur mein emaan kee hararat walon nay
Dil apna wahi papi hai barson say namazi bun na saka.

Think about it.

Whats wrong in speaking the mind out? I dont support the Idea of changing name and looks like you dont support it to but there is no need for personal remarks/comments.

I challange you for open debate any time any where. even on this forum. Mohammad Ali Jinnah was never accept by Mulas of sub continent because he was Ismaili follower of Aga Khan.

It has nothing to do with the beliefs of Mohammad Ali Jinnah.. Its about the ideology of Pakistan. Which is clear that Pakistan was made on the ISLAM, there is absolutely no doubt about that. If the founder was Ismaelee/Agha Khani/Ahmadi/Shia/Sunni or anything, that is pretty much tertiary.

Ehsan bhai, is there any point even to suggest a name change like that???? referendum to door kee baat hai....

America has its own problems. Pakistan being another state will only double the problems..

Re: MQM backs ANP proposal to change Pakistan’s name

Towards secularism .. one step at a time… fully supported - this so called “dum-chala” of Islamic republic should be taken off years ago… but ..“deir aye dursat aye” ..

:k: …

Pakistan was founded as a Secular State along the same lines as Modern Turkey...

It was never meant to be an Islamic State. Its only when Jinnah died in 1948 that people butchered the constitution and created this hodge podge Draconian wannabe Islamic State called Pakistan

What about

Great Pakistan
United States of Pakistan
Union of Pakistani Islamic Republics
United Pakistani Republic
Democratic State of Pakistan
Peoples Republic of Pakistan

The country of whom you are citizen, is that a Secular country or does it show any secularism intent??? Here I am not talking about the country, where you could have born or yours parent were born.

If NO, then why do you want Pakistan to be a Secular State!!!

from are you getting your fact??? This is a news that Pakistan was founded on Secular grounds. Last time I read about Quaid-e-Azam, I am sure he wanted an Islamic country. It was Musharaf I guess who wanted Pakistan to a secular state, cause of his love to Secular Turkey.
Dude, would you mind to share your sources??? In the mean time you can read every word of this Pakistan Desk | Quaid e Azam, A Secular Leader ?
