Moving to London

Re: Moving to London

^ Since you are moving with family, you should take many things into consideration. I take your wife is a housewife and yuo are moving from PAkistan. Since you will be out of the house most of the time, it’s vital that you choose such area where your wife does not feel a total stranger, a good neighbourhood with some DECENT proportion of desi families would help a alot in settling down process. BUT it doesn’t mean that you pack your bags and move to East London.:hehe: You should consider west of London, that includes areas like Hounslow, Harrow, Feltham, Richmond (although a bit expensive place to live, but it’s worth it). Once you are settled down, and familiar with the system, you can move to any other decent place.

Re: Moving to London

^Feltham has good desi community but it's also full of 3rd class white people, and high in racism and crimes.

Richmond, Harrow and Hounslow are nice places with a big muslim community. Hounslow has an Islamic school as well.

Re: Moving to London

Ilford :vivo:

Cobham. :mocking:

Re: Moving to London

^ Oh pleaseeee, Ilford is the best place to live :vivo:

Names of the cities sound scary. Good luck, London is full of antiques.

*Zone 3. Acton Easy to commute if it’s NORTH Acton, since it’s on central lane.

Ealing Too many Polish, again easy to commute from here as London underground runs to Ealing (however, Turtle lane AKA District Lane is not best of the London Underground)

Croydon Too far, he will need to catch tram service from wimbledon everyday.

Surrey Best Place to Live, but it’s out of zone 6 and daily travel card will cost him more than £12.00

Tooting => Crap
Walthamstow**=>Crapier**
East Ham=> Crapest

ADDENDUM:- is he coming for studies or job related move? If for studies then look for somewhere closer to his college/uni.*

Besides you will find desis in all above mentioned places.

I live in Pinner, Harrow, it is continues safest borough in London for years. no one has mentioned it.

areas in Harrow like , Pinner, Hatch End, Stanmore , harrow on the hill are very good and also has good asian community as well. With Metropolitan fast underground and train access its very commutable to central london too.

Re: Moving to London

^In post#21 Xeno did mention Harrow along with few other places.

Re: Moving to London

i missed it :), berkshire is one of my fav county in UK barring its few towns.

For example? :aq:

what about Hammersmith? Edgware Road and Kilburn?

I lived in Tooting for two weeks and I was scare to death. Coming back at home by night was an unforgetable experience.
Then I moved to Richmond (Richmond Hill). That was great! two months there
Finally I ended in Wimbledon to be with friends and that was one year and a half superb!!! :)

HAmmersmith & Chiswick are good places, I would prefer Chiswick since it is not as commercial as Hammersmith.

Edgware Road, hmmmm too commercial for LIVING. and Kilburn is a no no for me. :D

Re: Moving to London

There are few things to consider like distance from work (travel cost and time), budget etc. if you are only worried about crime then the following website (as it is my first post it didn’t allow me to post link ) will tell you very useful information about people living in different areas of England.

Upmystreet.com

Just enter post code or area name and it will tell you about crime rate, average income of people living in that area, children school standard, health, transport etc. I hope this helps.

Re: Moving to London

upmystreet dot com

East Ham seems to have more desis than white people, it looks about 90% desi (tho obviously it isn't just seems that way), more Bengalis than Pakistanis I think tho

Lol no 10mins up the road in Hornchurch is wayyyyy nicer :slight_smile:

To the poster who said Romford is bad, in terms of the E.London/Essex areas Dagenham and Barking are like 100x worse, I live about 3/4 miles from Romford and it is bad but not anywhere near as bad as those other places that are known BNP strongholds and equally bad for any foreigners. I remember reading about some poor black man being run over at a petrol station in Dagenham by some racists for having the ‘nerve’ to be going out with a white woman. That place is seriously messed up.

Re: Moving to London

St Johns Wood all the way! :smiley:

Hornchurch - i think Elm park tube station is close to there, right?? :hmmm:

Re: Moving to London
