Re: Movies and TV shows with violence and nudity
i'd avoid as much as i can but there is hardly any good series without violence and nudity except Due South[even that's not quite recent], i wouldn't worry about kissing coz it's quite common in this society anyway and my kids are already used to of watching couples kissing so t doesn't surprise them though i don't have a tv and my kids watch selective things on dvd or iplayer and so do i.....the most graphic series i've seen so far is Dexter in my opinion but the violence doesn't shock me at all, it's the sexuality that makes me a bit uncomfortable.
Btw, I watched first 15 minutes of Spartacus and gave up, I always hated movies and tv series with roman themes. There was this mini series "The Pillars of the Earth" set in medieval times and I loved it.
Yeah most good shows have nudity in them. And Spartacus is way over the top, but it's pretty good. You should watch Rome (mini series) much better and more politically focused, but the violence and nudity is ever present, even more so because it's British. If you like Medieval themed shows you should watch the Tudors, I hear it's good.
Never cared about the violence, but I'll just change the channel if there is nudity just because its so awkward if you are with family.
I agree with Barbie that kids under 14 shouldn't be allowed to watch sexual or violent scenes.
The RATINGS are there for a reason you know.
I agree but what do you guys think about The Dark Knight like I mentioned above. Batman is bound to attract kids but the movie implies some pretty violent scenes.
I remember when we used to be in our early teens and somewhat allowed to watch R-rated movies once in a while, we'd assign the remote to the eldest in the group of cousins/siblings and as soon as kissing/lovemaking scene would start (bound to), he or she would announce for everyone to close their eyes while it was being fast forwarded cuz you can always tell whats going on even then and when it was over we'd be asked to open our eyes again.
Now well, we just look at each other awkwardly or stare at the ceiling while it's getting fast-forwarded.
If the entire movie is themed on sexual and explicit content then I wouldn't watch it.
That's fair, but you guys still forward through sex scenes even as adults? I don't see much harm in adults watching something like Dexter or The Sopranos. I mean, that show had nudity and swearing, but if you read some of the stuff online about the symbolism in The Sopranos, it blows my mind that they put that much thought into it.
So the consensus seems to be that desis don't mind violence but will avoid nudity. We're kind of hypocritical aren't we? I mean, is a kiss really worse than a man getting impaled or something.
