Harappan…it makes sense if she lives in a remote village where she has grown up with the idea that she needs everyone and their mama’s approval to do what she wants.
You cannot educate a human being and then expect them to voluntarily limit themselves and act as if their diploma is just for show. That is cruel.
These decisions are made based on a couple’s understanding and between them only.
One more thing…in a society where women and men work side by side…mutual respect for each other’s roles and ideas is important. No one is bound to follow anything…not even a woman.
