Re: Mother tongue.

^ yes, 3 types Ki.

Re: Mother tongue.

First one and we used to laugh at people speaking 2nd one.

Re: Mother tongue.

:fatee: but kinz speak number 2

Re: Mother tongue.

Lol no STA we speak # 1,

Coz we are also from same part of Sindh, where muqawee bhai lives.

Re: Mother tongue.

i was kidding.

Re: Mother tongue.

But in text books and literature both are used. I feel that no.1 is more poetic… as this Manzoor Sakheerani’s song is. Many people here heard it in Hum TV’s ‘Sachal and Sabrina’

Re: Mother tongue.

Concept of mother tongue is only valid if generation after generations are living in the same region. Urdu could be my mother tongue, but go back 5 generations and I am sure my forefathers were speaking a totally different language (Sanskrit, Arabic, farsi etc). Same with our kids. I can force my kids to keep Urdu as their primary language, but what about their kids and kids after them?

Re: Mother tongue.

TLK if we link our kids with our culture through language, may be, in return they also want their children to use the same language.

I do agree with your point of generation living in same region. If one or two generation lost link with the region, then its hard to stick to the language.

Re: Mother tongue.

When people of israel renewed usage of hebrew........why we can not save our mother tongue....

Re: Mother tongue.

If we have any kids then they surely will learn urdu......and that good urdu that people will think that our kids are born and brought up in Pakistan.

Re: Mother tongue.

 I expected that from you blessed.

BTW Aishwariya Rai ne jo Umrao Jaan main Urdu boli hai, us pe aap ke kia comments hain?

Re: Mother tongue.

shukriya.

as always achay comments hain. :)…on a serious note it was a good job by her since she does not have a strong urdu (listening to her urdu/hindi interviews).

mere bachay isi movie se urdu seekhay ge. haha

Re: Mother tongue.

Exactly.

There was a time, when it was believed that Urdu is being imposed on other communities and now even Urdu speaking people are kinda disowning it by not promoting that to their next generations. Why passion for language faded away in short time?

Re: Mother tongue.

I think you should make them watch Ashfaq saheb's dramas for learning strong Urdu :D

Re: Mother tongue.

i will do.

Re: Mother tongue.

I thought your mother tongue is Punjabi. How did you got good command over Urdu.

I think Punjabi is not taught as a subject in schools like Sindhi, Balochi and Pashto? Why it is so?

Re: Mother tongue.

no...what made u think that my mother tongue is punjabi.....its urdu.

yeah i agree these languages should be taught at school level....in fact should have option like here u have the option of doing german, french at school level.

Re: Mother tongue.

I don't know why but remember I contacted you for translation of some Punjabi poetry related to mothers.

I do agree that local languages should be promoted alongwith foreign languages. Lets ask why other people, why Punjabi is not taught is schools of Pakistan in a separate thread.
