Its sad but not a reason to hate. She seems to have a mental disorder. One should pity her, its likely she had some trauma in her life which caused her to abuse her son.

If news presented in this way that a “Mathematics graduate Mother killed son for…or Indian woman killed her son for…”. Do we relate this news to **Indian mothers **or to Mathematics graduates Women?
The news indoctrinating us that this is because of not memorizing Quran and/or due to being a Muslim/Islam.

This isnt unique to religious people. The underlying cause is something common to people who have psychiatric conditions in general. The hyper religiosity is only the outward expression of a deeper psychosis.
This case follows a typical pattern seen among many abusive women.
She may have been projecting her failures onto her son for example. Her own insecurity manifested itself in her son. In a way, she was probably trying to beat herself into shape.
The Muslim part of this is only relevant to the extent that there are certain societal imperatives unique to the group, but thats all. Had she been from any other religion or culture, she would have done something similar. If she hadnt beaten the poor kid to death for not memorizing the Koran, she would have beaten him to death for not memorizing his school curriculum.
Granted the religious imperatives she felt (her son becoming a hafiz) didnt help her underlying insecurities.

Not necessarily, your upbringing, your environment, these play a huge factor in who you become. There are certain qualities that are seen among people from different types of families (Close intimate families vs distant and perhaps conflict ridden families for example) that are documented and the members of those families often approach situations in ways particular to the way their family was structured.

Yeah the issue isnt with Islam itself. She was obviously unstable to begin with.
I guess one could argue that the social environment that Muslim find themselves in, wanting to excel among that society is what pressured her into going over the edge, but then you find similar cases in cultures that value academic success among children above all else. How many cases of child abuse would you find among people in Asian cultures where competition among kids is so intense?

There are a lot of cases where competition among kids is so intense which even woun't considered as 'child abuse'. Example of olympic kidz. Here i agree with you that due to the environment in which he/she is living may cause (1) unstable condition and/or (2) pressured one to go over the edge then convict him/her.

I am not Muslim but do realize it has become somewhat of an easy leap to blame your religion for anything that involves Holy Quran or a muslim. You have to appreciate that this tendency came about because of the behaviors and actions of other muslims in the name of their religion.
neither is justified and I do realize such things happen regardless of which religion but IMO more muslims go to more extremes than I have seen other religion-followers do. Don't get me wrong, i don't hate anyone that is within bounds of morality and ethics but do want to say my true feeling about the matter

A mother who beat her seven-year-old son to death for failing to learn the Qur’an by heart and then burned his body in an attempt to hide her crime has been jailed for life.
Sara Ege, 33, collapsed and had to be helped sobbing from the dock after being told on Monday she would serve 17 years before she could be considered for parole.
Cardiff crown court heard that Ege treated her son Yaseen “like a dog” when he struggled to memorise passages of the holy book of Islam. She beat him on the hands and his body until he collapsed on the floor of his bedroom and died.
Ege used barbecue lighting gel to set fire to the boy’s body to try to conceal what she had done. Initially emergency services believed he had been killed in a fire at the family home in Pontcanna, Cardiff.
But a postmortem revealed he had died before the fire had begun and had suffered multiple injuries to his body caused by three months of physical punishment.
The jury was told that Ege and her husband, taxi driver Yousef Ege, 38, enrolled Yaseen in advanced classes at a local mosque because they wanted him to become Hafiz – someone who memorises the Qur’an.
As a child, Ege had herself committed large sections of the book to memory and entered competitions to demonstrate her ability. But she became increasingly frustrated when her son was unable to do as well as she expected and began beating him.
Following her arrest, Ege, a mathematics graduate, confessed to killing her son.
She told police she was “getting angry too much”, adding: “I would shout at Yaseen all the time. I was getting very wild and I hit Yaseen with a stick on his back like a dog.”
Ege said she frequently promised herself that she would stop attacking her son but could not resist beating him. She claimed she had been urged on by the devil and bad spirits. At one point she believed the stick she used to punish her son was possessed by an evil spirit.
A teaching assistant at the boy’s school noticed that his handwriting was deteriorating and discovered he was using his left hand because it was too painful for him to use his right. On another occasion Ege was called into school because he was in too much pain to sit. She moved him to a new school.
On the day her son died she told police he collapsed on the floor of his bedroom after she had beaten him and, half-conscious, continued to recite from the Qur’an.
Ege said: “He was breathing as if he was asleep when I left him. He was still murmuring the same thing over and over again. I thought that he was just tired.”
She forced him to drink milk; and when she went back to him he was shaking and shivering. She did not seek medical help and the boy died. The woman then used barbecue lighting gel to set fire to his body.
Ege later retracted her account of what had happened and claimed her husband and his family had forced her to make the confession. She accused her husband, who stood trial with her, of being a violent bully and the real killer.
Yousef Ege was cleared of causing or allowing his son’s death by failing to act to prevent it. Sara Ege was found guilty of the murder, which took place in July 2010, and perverting the course of justice.

Its not about how do we perceive it. Its about how do other people see it. You are right with your example, but you should not deny the fact that there are people from other religions who use such Muslim acts against Islam and try to spread it throughout the world.
We should NOT give such excuses to anyone so that they can use it against Islam.

Such extremes may seem more prevalent among Muslims simply because there is a larger sample size of them. Muslims comprise 1.5 Billion people in the world. Even though Muslims are very different from each other in many ways, non Muslims often lump them together into one massive monolithic group.
There are all sorts of errors that can be introduced into your assessement, including cultural bias, regardless of whether intended or not.
Perhaps your right and there is more extremism among Muslims, but that doesnt necessarily mean its true. For something to be true, it must be accurately assessed.
