I am hearing and reading alot about how this lady was mentally disturbed but we need to realise this case happened not in India, Pakistan or Saudi Arabia but happened in the United Kingdom. A country so tolerant that people from many cultures leave their own countries to settle here. A thorough process would have been followed and had she been mentally ill it would have been made clear (it may be I have missed something and but am willing to be corrected)
Mr Justice Wyn Williams said: “I am satisfied that it was his failure to learn the Koran that day that resulted in the beating that caused his death.”
He continued: "On the day of Yaseen’s death you had kept him home from school so he could devote himself to his study of the Koran.
"He was memorising passages but on that day Yaseen must have failed in some way and it was that which was a trigger for the beating.
"You killed your own son. At the time of the killing he was particularly vulnerable because of his age and because of his relative physical frailty.

The women was mentally disturbed you failed to mention the rest of judges quotes.
Trial judge Mr Justice Wyn Williams accepted that in some areas she was a “good mother” and had suffered prolonged bouts of depression due to a number of factors.
no woman i don’t care what belief they have would kill their own child if they was mentally stable!

Why didn't they declare about Shafilea Ahmed's parent that they were mentally disturbed and why only in this case, where this child was unable to memorize Qur`an, it has been said that the mother was mentally ill??

In "some areas" she may well have been a good mother, just how some mothers and fathers may provide a warm home and clothing for their child but yet manage to commit depraved sexual acts on them. The point is unless there has been a miscarriage of justice her mental condition would have been thorougly assessed and qualified people would have declared her mentally unstable had she been so.
Some things go beyond the comprehension of decent human beings and we seek to make excuses for what we do not understand.

thoroughly assessed is not full proof the judge declared her mentally disturbed it is not an excuse it is stating a fact, sane people do not kill their own kids as the norm.

What a logic. So essentially you are saying that she should have been given the benefit of doubt and left free. if you extend the logic further, no sane person would not commit a ghastly crime. So let us brand all criminals as mentally unstable and let them free.
