Ok, we will open a new thread on Aurangzeb to discuss his personality more. For the time being I’m posting this pro- Auranghzeb speech by Mufti Zarwali.
Coming to the next aspect of the discussion, why did you choose Shahjahan as most controversial personality of sub continent history?
ya until he built the taj mahal ;that was quite expensive brother......
But that is beneficial for today's Indian tourism. Almost all the mughal emperors built some monuments and that was as per the norms of those days. Even Auranghzeb bulit Badshahi Masjid of Lahore and did some additions to Shahi qilla of Lahore too.
Noticed a trend here based on this and previous thread - muslims from India like Aurngzeb, while Hindus from india prefer Akbar.
As for the holoucast being made up or exaggerated, that view is sad, and unnecessarily opens old wounds.
But Southie uncle, we all know wars lead to destruction be it 1857 independence war in India or destruction of Japanese cities during World War. why holocaust is excessively discussed with exagerration?

Dear Muqawwee, wars do lead to destruction. But what happened to the jews was not part of a war. It was the systematic annihilation of a race of people due to xenophobia. I cannot imagine the anguish and terror experienced by them and their relatives. There arestill people alive who recont these horrors. Rather than deny it hapened, we can start threads disussing others who also suffered similarly. I am just appealing to your sense of fairness (which I know you have plenty of) to resist making such remarks.
You are much stronger in history than me (along with language, science etc). So I will have to do my homework to debate the sepcifics. But just wanted to say I was a bit saddened when I saw the remark (and I am not jewish as you know).

Southie Uncle
Thanks for pointng out all this, but there are arguments that prove exagerration of holocaust theories. I'm also not against any particular nation or religion. So we will definitely cover this issue more in detail in other threads.
PS: I'm in learning process and I don't think I know more than others. The reason for my being here is to learn through sharing.
Coming to the point of discussion, who in your opinion is the most controversial person both worldwide and from Indo Pak history?
fatawa-e-alamgeeri **was one of the greate acheivement of **Aurengzeb Alamgeer. He called uleam from muslim world and compiled a very comprehensive book on religious maslay masail.
They have become Maxim (Zarb al Misl) for disloyalty in subcontinent. Allama Iqbal had written poetry on these, "Mir Jafar o bengal Mir sadiq o deccan nange deen, nange adam, nange watan" which mean Mir Jafar of Bengal and Mir Sadiq of Deccan are disgrace to the faith, disgrace to humanity, disgrace to the nation.
Someone told me recently that Pakistan's first president Iskandar Mirza was descendent of Mir Jafar and Iskandar Mirza's son probably had written a book to prove that Mir Jafar was not a traitor.

Thats quite a big achievement, but I think he did not work for the unity between different sects of Muslims.
