Re: Moronic Mindless People, giving Islam a bad name.
Every religion and society have fair share of people who is highlight of this news... generalizing the whole community/country or religion does not make any sense..
Re: Moronic Mindless People, giving Islam a bad name.
Actually you linked it his actions to Islam and implied that his actions reflected directly on the religion.
Like I said in my second post there is absolutely no correlation between the two and its pretty sad that when a comparison was drawn for Christianity you could not make the same leap of judgment.

I am not generalizing, the world is. I am just showing my anger towards the people who are, although amongst us but, helping the world to add on to that generalization.

Is Christianity on trial (in general global sense) my friend? I dont think so. But Islam is (whether you like it or not, that is the truth). For a normal Muslim, its no longer 'innocent until proven guilty' .. its 'guilty until proven innocent'. It does not matter whether you like it or not, but this is the way it is. That calls for more responsible attitude from us (the general Muslim community). We can all argue a lot about what Christians are doing and Jews are doing but that is not going to change the way world looks at Islam and actions as such just enforces that view.

TLK you are rigth that under current atmosphere, muslims need to be extra careful, but CM also has a point, which is, are we not adding to this atmosphere, by self flagellation, everytime somone acts like a jerk?

I am not saying that. This is what Media is talking about. In fact ABC correspondent said pretty much what you said in your first statement. He said (and I am paraphrasing) that its unfortunate but when you take such incident and adds a middle eastern Muslim male to it then it automatically doubles up the sensitivity of the situation. His undertone was acknowledging the fact that how difficult the situation is with Muslim community that every act of any Muslim is looked through the lens of Islamic fundamentalistism (is that even a word?).
By the way, I think that self imposed scrutiny is way better that having someone else point fingers at you. Nothing wrong with that.

TLK the question is not whether the religion is on trial or not. It is the retarded notion that for some reason I as a Muslim represent my entire faith and represent 1 billion people. That is a retarded notion that the West has placed on our heads. And instead of correcting it and more importantly fighting against such a idiotic notion you not only mention it but fall into the same mentality that he is responsible for the faith and its detractors.
Its like saying the Taliban represent all of us, which is what the West continues to state, but our Muslim brethren are too stupid to fight against the way we are defined.
More importantly the equation of Islam being on trial is not valid. The question is how you portrayed the situation. You very first sentence linked it to Islam right away. That is just plain wrong.

Dude, you are absolutely right and that is the most irritating part of the whole situation. Those self claimed Islamic leaders who blew up people or behead them after chant Allaho akbar, ruined it for all of us. Now people think, this is islam.
It becomes duty of peoople like you and I to fix it and we cannot fix it by not giving a tight slap on the back of Mohammed Al-Madadi's head.
Re: Moronic Mindless People, giving Islam a bad name.
Normally there should not be any reference to his religion or even his country when such an idiotic thing is done - unless there is a pattern of it - ie if a succession of Qatari dips behave this moronically then you can attribute something wrong with Qatar; similarly if a succession of muslims behave this way, then yes you cannot avoid some people bringing the religion into it.
At the same token I think it is absolutely fair game to question what is wrong with christianity as a religion when so many child abuses have been surfaced from the christian priests. Absolutely I would say, there is something wrong with that religion if so many of its stalwarts and priests abuse altar boys.
I am not sure if people comprehend how bad this could have turned out to be - an air marshal might have taken extreme measures if this nutcase had sneezed or made some sudden move. Then we would all have been sitting here criticizing the air marshal for itching to kill muslims

Exactly. Thank god the guy did not resist anything and realized that he made a mistake or it would be a pretty bad situation.
[QUOTE]
Passengers aboard United Airlines flight 663 said no struggle took place and the suspect appeared to be speaking calmly to a U.S. air marshal in the first class cabin.
"I didn't know anything had happened until we landed," said Tim Burney, sitting one row in front of the man, who was handcuffed and taken away for questioning at the airport.

Well said.
Moreover, Christians and Jews are not claiming to that their religion is "Complete way of life", and thus $tupidly mix their religions with the every falsehood in the name of politics and worldly buisiness.
Religion was supposed to give spiritual guidance and stop and that.
Then good spirited and righteous people were supposed to perform good in the world.
What we did instead is to take spirit out of religion and put all the dirty politics in it.
Na khuda he raha, na wisale sanam.
Na idhar kay rahay, na udhar kay rahay
Aur Maualna hazoor halwa kha ga-aay.
So yes Islam is on trial,
And these tribals from Middle East are not helping.
And some Pakistanis in the name of religion are hell bent on becoming the same Middle Eastern tribal.
What this grown man did is worse than childish. Really really pathetic. Too bad he had diplomatic immunity, he should have been locked in Gitmo for few months at least. That's where he was heading anyways.
p.s. Thanks for changing the title. this one is much better.
Re: Moronic Mindless People, giving Islam a bad name.
It is the stupidity of that person - and not really related to any religion.
But in west or perhaps even in other parts of world, any such event involving a muslim would automatically get linked to their religion, partly because of muslims themselves. This is because some/most muslims themselves involve religion into every aspect of their life, be it politics, military, economics etc. They convey a message that without religion, things would have been very worse for them. Because of this, religion also takes the blame.
The day religion is kept as a personal matter and learn as many good things as possible from it, without highlighting to the outside world how their religion has done great things for them, religion wont take the blame in these instances.

Yes they did. But others who use this example to defame Islam make it worse. Because you accept the paradigm in which they define us. You will notice while others here made the obvious connection that this does not involve religion at all, you did. That is the problem.
As for fixing. My duty is not to tell the paradigm you agree with to define my life. I was in New York when the cartoons came out in Denmark and I saw first hand how the EU diplomats refused to have any discussions with any Muslim Ambassador even Turkey and Jordan on the matter. They openly stated that they have nothing to discuss with us to defuse the situation.
Since that time i do not let a bunch of white **** ups define me and my religion. Sadly that is not the case with most Muslims in the west.
My job is to inform these idiots that I do not represent my faith. I do not represent 1 billion people and if that is how the west wishes to define us, they can start with apologizing for colonialism, the genocide in Algeria and so much more. After that we talk.
Its sad to see the Uncle Tom mentality amongst the Muslim community in the West.
