indians are also pakis to all brits. they keep they're heads bowed, live their lives with 'some' amount of insecurity and not being heard. one of the problems is that they are spread about amongst pakistani and white communities. btw there is little difference between pakistanis and indian muslims now. indian hindus that do mix with pakistanis get into the same kind of things as their pakistani friends be it good or bad.
pakistanis seem 'able' where as indians seem 'disabled' in many aspects of real life. for this reason indians seem to just get on with the job at hand, ie school, education with 100% commitment as this is also their main source of sociallising too. pakistanis on the other hand enjoy a much more active social life with people of a very similar background. these friendships have trust and have a very strong bond. this leads to feeling group shared pride, security and some amount of feeling superior over other ethnic groups.

as i was growing up, i knew i was blessed from up above. its been a pleasure being a brit pakistani.

vroom I've always envied Asians who live and grow up in Asian dominated areas, good looking healthy brown people everywhere, kitted up cars with sub buffers, restaurants and takeaways which actually sell food instead of cardboard, azan from the mosques..

I don't come from a posh area or anything but it's not an inner city area, just a nice little town so Asians are a tiny minority, most neighbours get on with us but we've experienced a lot of racism.

When I was at school there was a lot of Asians so we only ever hung out with each other, we had 1-2 Italians who we had redeemed and initiated into our group but that was about it. I can relate to the bond, pride, security and feeling of contentment you talk of, whites hated us so we hated them and there was no desire to be accepted by them so no worries, I think I was in year 8 when 9/11 happened and it was sad so many people died but no big deal as far as “what will people think of us?” was concerned, the elders were worried about what will become of Muslims in the west but we couldn't relate to their feelings because we didn’t have to interact with outsiders the way they did, only now when there is mention of something like that on the news I think “oh no ab kya kar diya!!”, of course I feel for the victims as well but my primary concern is having to face colleagues who paint us all in the same brush, whereas when I was amongst Asians such things were none issues.

Those days I didn't find whites attractive at all (I thought they were well bland) so that was one more reason to not care about what they thought of us but lately I think they're growing on me, not the chavette hoop earring types but the upper class urban types so I sometimes quite hope everyone just starts getting on with each other.
