Re: Morals without God
Like I said before, I believe empathy and reasoning can lead to the creation of sound ethics, as in the case of Ayn Rand.

Re: Morals without God
reasoning wud say "since there is no account of what i do, why shud i bear a loss myself for the sake of anyone else"....
without having a concept of God, there is no way one cud be determined to stick to moral values even at his/her own personal loss....
reasoning and logic, in that case, wud only make a person to think of his own self and not of anyone else....
and the moment u stop thinking of others benefit and sacrifice ur own for the sake of many, the moral values cease to exist....
Re: Morals without God
^ That's absolutely incorrect. Empathy, affection, compassion are natural human emotions and do not require concept of God to validate themselves.

Kant would say it would be a "sense of duty" responsible for this motivation. The "sense of duty" would be provided by rational thought processes, according to Kant.
Re: Morals without God
'sense of duty' comes only when a person thinks he is answerable to someone....
Re: Morals without God
erm, like the gov't? like to your own self-conscious?
Haan, yeh kaho that morality has its own different mazaa when there is a God involved. That's something different.
Re: Morals without God
Roman…Not everyone is as nice as you…
Re: Morals without God
self-conscious too seems very illogical a thing if one assumes there is no God…
Re: Morals without God
Please go back and read my post, I said reasoning and empathy could make people ethical. I am not sure how you confused empathy with logic.
