Morality

How is it defined for you?

Re: Morality

when you live your life by the religious code both in public or alone in complete privacy.

Re: Morality

what do you think about the statement:

People don't have to be personally moral in order to achieve great moral feats in public...?

Re: Morality

i do NOT believe in 'dual' life-style so this statement makes no sense to me :)

Re: Morality

More facilitative questions : does morality have to be informed by religion? Does atheism encourage moral relativism?

Why haven't they unlocked your 'God is not Great' thread? I vanted to contribute.

Re: Morality

^ chaibiskut you are a good cookie ... I mean biskut ... :D

For the record ... Moral Relativism is the systematic changing of morals based on a dominant opinion at a given time and place ... Of course my take is that non-religious morality is subject to the same vulnerability that democracy is subject to ... that people are like sheep and can be swayed by the norms around them.

Re: Morality

Morality is the sense of right and wrong given to humanity by default.

Religion comes to reinforce and remind this to people. Those, who are already self aware, practice the morality in their individual and collective lives and when religion comes to them testifying what their souls already know, they embrace it with open heart. It gives a purpose to their moral bahavior in this process. They now realize that all this is not just for nothing but there is a proper award (good or bad) for having good or bad bahavior (morality).

Those who reject religious teaching show signs of immorality at one point in life or other including those who identify themselves as religious. People who reject religion can also practice morality often due to the fear of law of land.

Re: Morality

religions try to lay done morality. whether this is practical is debatable. there are almost no societies today that are able to function with religious law in place.

as a wise man said, the proof is in the pudding.

Re: Morality

Tell this to Christian evangelists or Israelis or Aga Khanis.

Re: Morality

i would but they run away when i hand them the "embrace atheism, save yourself from sin" pamphlet.

Re: Morality

Which society has christian evangelist- driven laws in place?

Re: Morality

From that link:

Morals are values which we attribute to a system of beliefs, typically a religious system, but it could be a political system of some other set of beliefs. These values get their authority from something outside the individual- a higher being or higher authority (e.g. society).

Morals are component values that constitute part of a value system authorised by an authority outisde the individual.

Value in the general sense is a super-set for morals, where a "value" can come from within, or from outside the individual. A value is something that we can attribute good and bad with.

morality cannot be everything the mind was fed from birth because not everything we are fed are "values" ... Many things are neutral packets of data ... However, our morals becomes crystalised as we grow older ... so it is often the case that a young child will learn that stealing is wrong and be absolute regarding this idea, but an adult may be more inclined to consider what or how much is being stolen and who from that actually constitutes a moral action.

Re: Morality

Why did you not talk about Israelis or Aga Khanis?

Re: Morality

Because I know nothing about Ava khanis and little about Israeli law

Re: Morality

Queer you said

"religions try to lay done morality. whether this is practical is debatable. there are almost no societies today that are able to function with religious law in place.

as a wise man said, the proof is in the pudding."

Wrong!

How stupid and ignorant one must be when there is one Book out there which claims to be the proof of a Supreme Being, but one does not spend his time with it and mock at it, right Queer? Spend time with it and you will be able to live with it’s law. What is the law? This is the law of God, don’t kill! If this is the law of man, why are there so many killings? How stupid man is, he alledgly invents something, but does not stay above it.

The Holy Prophet (saw) granted a delegation of Christians to pray in the Mosque with all the rituals Christianity comes with. We know that the Holy Prophet (saw) hated it so much when talks of multiple gods arose! Still he was steadfast, always taking care of the opposite.

Had the society time to spend a little while with the Qur’an, society would know that Allah seperates Religious Affairs from State Affairs. Best proof are the Holy Prophet (saw) and of Sala-ud-Deen Ayubi ( you probably never heard about) who after taking over Jerusalem peacefully, granted all rights to the different believing groups in the Holy City of the Jews.

You are filled with ignorance which is really sad. You have only bias. Nothing more. I’m showing you the mirror, I hope you realize now that there is no sense when you know nothing or less and then talk or would you preach Maths even though you don’t know it? This is the picture I have about you. Telling me about my religion what is right and what is wrong. I know it very well. God has given me brain like he has given one to you. The fact is that we grew up in different socities.

You know, my God is such a great one that he does not punish people who are ignorant in times when Knowledge had not come yet from God. Why would God threat you with Hell, when you don’t about it? Do you think that people before Islam who have done good deeds go to hell? They drunk wine! Oh my God! Now Hell comes! Oh My God, No they don’t! They will have their reward from their Lord. Yes, when knowledge has come ( I compare it with a software update) and you are invited to spend time with it, but you don’t, this is stupidtiy, not wise.

If I understand you correct, a wise man is someone who runs away from a Book which claims to be the Book of The Creator? Very wise! I’m overwhelmed.

I hope that My God shows up to you as well! Search and you will find. The question is do you want it? I mean what will you lose?

I got something for you.
