Money's not everything

For the xmas holidays in the states, we rented a beach house near to my parents house so that we could all be together but allow for my Dad to rest and have quiet when he needed it. It was a gorgeous oceanfront mansion type of place with 5 bedrooms, something we’d never be able to afford to buy unless we hit lotto. ANNY way, our next door neighbor there was a lovely looking lady of my age with a daughter the same age as my middle son.

She owns her beach house along with 5 other properties and is separated from her husband, seeking divorce. What a sad tale she has to tell!! She is just devastated by the loss of her marriage, the shuffling back and forth of her young children. She’s got her beach house up for sale (3 million), she wears a couple of her diamonds (OMG) and she really drips money.

But alas, she is the saddest person I’ve ever met in my life. I live in a very modest house, wear modest clothes and little jewelry. But IMO, I’m one of the richest people on the planet since I have my family.

Re: Money's not everything

Money's not everything but still it means a lot in this day and age!

Re: Money's not everything

money brings power
power brings everything including happiness( if someone wants to).
so we can say
money can bring happiness if someone wants to .

Re: Money's not everything

money and family.....the two dont have to be mutually exclusive. its great to have both.

Re: Money's not everything

Hey I'm not bashing the thought of having oodles of money oozing from every corner....its just that most people think that the wealthy have the easy life. It isnt always so. And when you have a great, close family, you're among the richest on the planet. I'd not trade that for any amount. I still faithfully hope to hit lotto but heck.

Re: Money's not everything

Happiness isn't having what you want, it's wanting what you have. God gives everyone in exact measure, so if you are content with what you have, you are truly successful.

Re: Money's not everything

money is honey
and a rich man's joke is always funny

Re: Money's not everything

yep.....money's nothing

if you don't know how to use it :D

Re: Money's not everything

Its all relative actually. But here is a story that I am told is a true story.

A guy goes to visits a very poor family of a very old woman and his young son in a remote village of Punjab. She had been sick and he was going there to check on them. They are so poor that they own only one manji (bed) and they sleep on the opposite sides. While the person visiting was asking about her health and asking about what she is doing about it, he tried to give them money but they didn't take it. So he asked if he can be of any other help at all. To which the old woman replied that her eye sight is very week and that she has a hard time reading Quran. And it will be great if he can get her a larger print Quran the next time he visits the city.

A few people are content in every condition, others can't have enough.

Re: Money's not everything

Indeed money isn't everything. Few years ago, i had a patient, sister of a head of state of a third world country, flown in for treatment at our hospital, with physicians from all over the world brought in to see her, yet she was in such poor condition.

Re: Money's not everything

I am with schweetdreamz, i want both. Although family is WAY more imp than money and i have and i would give up career or money anytime to be with the people i love.

Re: Money's not everything

/\ doesnt everybody want both? :

Re: Money's not everything

I don't want to be the richest person of this world, I only want a little so i can spend a better life I can support my family as well. Yes i m agree with Mamaof3, Money is not everything, Having a great close family keeps you always up on the sky.

Re: Money’s not everything

Money cannot buy u love or happiness. It gives u more choices.:halo:

Re: Money's not everything

You cannot keep money and family with you forever. Family members will pass away or circumstances will separate them from you, same goes with money. It is about solance. If anyone has watched movie "About Schmidt", you know what I am talking about.

One can live with family and feel like the most alone in the world. On the other hand, Mother Teresa had nothing but the entire world loved her. Money is not everything so is Love, but if you spread them around you, response is always overwhelming.

Re: Money's not everything

practical people know that money is everything. money makes the world go round.

money is an extremely strong motivator and as a result with lots of money you can pretty much get people to do everything you want.

with vast financial resources at your command, there is no limit to what you can do.

also, money is the primary measure of success in our society. Every John Familyman or John Lovey Dovey can succeed in establishing a family or a loving relationship, but not everyone can or will succeed in accumulating a fortune. Only some do and most who do actually do it through hard work, not by hitting lottos.

therefore, money and profit should be respected and esteemed, if not worshipped.

Re: Money's not everything

True money is not everything but still u need enough to have a happy life ...

Re: Money's not everything

Once there was a king who was very unhappy...He worried about state affairs, his kingdom, his throne, his subjects as a result he had become a harsh king...He didn't like being harsh and unhappy...

So one day when he was out travelling, while passing through one of his villages, he came a cross a peasant working in the fields...He saw that the peasant was happily working away, whistling with not a care in the world...The king kept noticing him, the peasant was cheerful with a smiling face...He just kept stacking hay happily as he worked with not a care in the world...

The king wistfully looked to the man and said to his vizier, I would like to be that happy...Have no care and not worry about anything...

The vizier was wise and told the king that what makes him happy is his not being concerned about anything...He works in the day and at night he sleeps tired...In the morning when he wakes up, he has no worries clouding his mind...Let's give him something to worry about, said the vizier...

The vizier then went to the peasant, gave him a bag of gold coins and said they were courtesy of the king...

The peasant was happy and thanked the vizier for the king's generosity...

The vizier went back to the king, and told the king we shall return here after a week and see what happened...

Lo and behold, both the king and the vizier returned to the same peasant the next week and were surprised to see the peasant...

The same peasant who was working hard and worry free the week before, was now working slow and gone was his happy demeanour and countenance...Instead, he looked worried and sick...

Upon seeing the vizier and king, he ran back to his hut, and came back running to them with something in his hand...It was the pouch of gold coins...

He came up to them and held out the bag of gold to the king...The king was surprised...Why are you returning all this gold to me, said the king, and the peasant replied, your grace, the gold coins that you gave me have taken away my peace...I keep thinking how best to spend them, what to buy, where to keep them from being stolen...They have made me arrogant and conceited...I have become irritable and keep thinking how to increase them...I appreciate your generosity, but please keep these coins...

Moral of the story: Man truly learns to live and let live when he himself has nothing to lose...

Re: Money’s not everything

:blush:well said, knowing how to use money is as difficult as knowing how to be happ with what you have.

Actually it takes a lot of wisdom.
But wisdom comes from learning from life.
But life experience are usually learnt the hard way.
And the born rich people usually have less hardships, so less oppoertunities to learn, though they can afford more studies.
IN addition rich people who were born poor have usually worked realy hard to get rich, so had not much time to think how to handle “being rich”…
and finally tohse who became rich with no work…well there are mostly criminals or frauds…so i doubt they can be labelled “wise” in the first place

hence most rich people have little probability to know how to be truly happy with money:bummer:…it’s maybe why we say “money doesn’t buy happiness”
