Re: Money's not everything

you are a nice american! very good american guy;)
i mean your comment is typically american, i wish you live there and stay there to live a happy life, with lot of money
Moral of the story: Man truly learns to live and let live when he himself has nothing to lose...
it's actually the basis of a lot of religious way of lives: sadus of hinduism, monks in buddhism and christianism. Each stresses te importance of poverty, and silence, , no family ties, nor feelings ...

Re: Money’s not everything

what a dodo

Re: Money's not everything

whether you have alot of money or not,** the key is to be satisfied with what you have and live within your means. **but that's easier said than done.

Re: Money’s not everything

:hehe:

Re: Money’s not everything

Well said Amani:)

Re: Money's not everything

i'd say Peace of mind is the priority ..money should be consideration:)

Re: Money’s not everything

Then the biggest dodo would have to be Gautama Siddharta aka Buddha who forsook his kingdom to live on the mountains, right? Same with every sage and Prophet who gave up material wealth for something more substantial, right?

Truly, the wise think as you do about these dodos…

Re: Money's not everything

A nice short poem on money..

 • Money Isn't Everything
 • Money can buy a house, but not a home.
 • Money can buy a bed, but not sleep.
 • Money can buy a clock, but not time.
 • Money can buy a book, but not knowledge.
 • Money can buy food, but not an appetite.
 • Money can buy position, but not respect.
 • Money can buy blood, but not life.
 • Money can buy medicine but not health.
 • Money can buy people, but not friends.
 • Money can buy insurance, but not safety. *]Money can buy everything, but not satisfaction.

Re: Money's not everything

Having money makes a difference..in how one can live..but it can,t buy love or peace of mind. But one can,t live without it either.

Re: Money's not everything

People who say money can brings you happiness too: You will never learn to be happy unless you are willing to give away everything you have and own and learn to live without it all.

Re: Money’s not everything

Re: Money's not everything

To which I would reply:

You can't have a home, unless you have a house! The better the house, the better the home.
You can't have a good night's kip, unless you've got a nice bed.
You can't check time or keep track of it, unless you've got a clock. The better the clock, the more pleasure you get in checking time.
You can't get knowledge, unless you've got a book. You can't go to Harvard or Yale unless you're loaded.
You're appetite will torment you, unless you've got the money to buy food.
Money may not buy life, but it can buy life-saving treatment.
Unless you've got medicine, you're health is not naturally going to sort itself out, especially if you live in a run-down slum.
Who needs friends? Friends make you lazy and complacent. It is better to have enemies: a good enemy is a good teacher. Friends simply reinforce your bad characteristics.
Money can buy safety: financial, material, as well as physical.
Money may not buy satisfaction, but neither does lack of money.

To which I would reply:

You can't have a home, unless you have a house! The better the house, the better the home. Houses are scary, i feel safe only in small flats* (i guess i watched too many horor movies, lol)

 • You can't have a good night's kip, unless you've got a nice bed. bed makes people lazy and unhealthy, it's best to sleep (and SIT!) on the floor

You can't check time or keep track of it, unless you've got a clock. The better the clock, the more pleasure you get in checking time. checking clock is stressing, you enjoy time only when you are not stressed, happy is the one who don't have a clock to wake him up in the morning, and to hassle him with appointmeent in the day

You can't get knowledge, unless you've got a book. You can't go to Harvard or Yale unless you're loaded. Internet is cheaper than most books and Yale...Confucius never went to Yale but he was more educated than most Yalers

You're appetite will torment you, unless you've got the money to buy food.
the tornement from too much food caused by large money is making more people die on this planet, than lack of food! it's 21st century man!

Money may not buy life, but it can buy life-saving treatment.
only someone who never saw her mom/dad dying of cancer/AIDS can say so...but i know that health can't be buy bought money, money can only treat your body like a robot...but we are not robots on the other hand hapiness certainly brings health!

Unless you've got medicine, you're health is not naturally going to sort itself out, especially if you live in a run-down slum.
medicine don't sort health, good food, good water, exercise and lack of stress do it

Who needs friends? Friends make you lazy and complacent. It is better to have enemies: a good enemy is a good teacher. Friends simply reinforce your bad characteristics.
friends are pushing you towards improvment by supporting you through loss of dezar ones and desease, and criticising you in a nice way when you are feeling well. Enemies are a cause of stress and depression that brings health down and can lead to suicide.

Money can buy safety: financial, material, as well as physical. only if you have inteligence to do so!
Money may not buy satisfaction, but neither does lack of money.agreed

Re: Money's not everything

well money is useless as long as Allah doesn't want it to be useful.. that was the point of the poem

Re: Money's not everything

Allah wishes us to accumulate money as much as we can.

Re: Money's not everything

Is it just me or did anyone else notice that the moral of the story did not necessarily have to be about what money can buy for you?

Instead of pacifying each other by saying "Money can't buy you happiness", or suggesing that "Money is power", can't the moral of the story simply be that no matter how financially strong or weak we are, Allah is still in control of our happiness and well-being.

If He so choses, we can live like Kings and still be lonely.
If He decides, we can live the life of a pauper but be carefree and happy.

Re: Money’s not everything

Well said. Couldn’t agree more.
