So I find myself thinking… “damn this is expensive. I shouldn’t’ve spent so much money on this” when I can definitely afford it, but I still feel uneasy abt spending it. But at the same time, I find myself spending so much damn money and it’s all on little things (CVS/rite aids are my weakness, makeup, hair products, medicine that doesnt work
) but mostly food! I’ll feel bad abt spending huge chunks of money at all at once (like buying a $75 bottle of perfume)… so sometimes I think of myself as being practical/ahem cheap, other times I waste money… Anyone know what the heck i’m talking abt ![]()
Re: Money Issues…
Ughh man I know what you’re talking about… I feel like I waste too much money on food and calling cards even though its my dad’s money, i still feel guilty:bummer: But I never feel bad about spending on clothes hehe those are a necessity!
And buying a whole bunch of new makeup products is just such a killer!! Me sticking to my old stuff for now ![]()
Re: Money Issues....
start a savings account and contribute to it monthly. that way, you'll have less disposable income, but also you won't feel so guilty cos you know you're building your own little nest egg on the side...
Re: Money Issues....
^ thats a good idea, and long time ago when babysitting and allowance was my sole source of income i use to compare things to how many hours i had to work for it, for example a $75 bottle of perfume would mean that i would have to babysit for about 8 hours. It worked cause then i would be asking myself if what i wanted to buy was really worth it. Almost 10 years later and i still use the same method.

savings accounts pay interest, which is haram.
Re: Money Issues....
so send it to a non interest bearing account.
problem solved

Re: Money Issues....
well....very easy... when ever you give sadqa, give it with your own hands to someone in neeed....( not to a charity organisation)... the sole purpose why islam encourages it is that it makes one think of the much ppl are in need of money and how big of a blessing it is. it'll impaact your heart and will change your moral values... which will effect your spending power.
odd? I'm sure it is but it works perfectly for me..... went to my khalaz pind in pakistan and gave a needy women 1000 rupees (becuz she was a widow with very low resources)....... the moment I handed it over to her she started crying and kissing me ( she was an elderly lady so I didn mind her kisses)... and made tonnns of dua for me...... and that made me realise what $20 means to someone!!!
ps .. "Sainville" seems to be somewhere in pakistan..so the method should work perfectly for you :CareBear:

so use an islamic bank or something. or donate the interest to charity. you don't have to keep it if you object so strongly to the concept.
Re: Money Issues....
Sara,
Try setting up a budget for yourself. Start a spreadsheet with allocations for Rent/Mortgage, Insurance, Car Loan/Lease, Groceries, Savings, Entertainment, etc., etc.
Try to contirbute a portion to each every month and then see if you spend as much on extras.

Or put it into ING direct and send me the interest. I will give it to a muslim charity. Kasamse kahta hoon.
Re: Money Issues....
Why is it that money is such a sensitive topic, esp between friends? This is just a general observation...
I"m always hearing about people who lent money to friends and they've not been paid back, and it appears that htey never will be....in several cases, the friendships are completely ruined because that person never paid it back and in others and it just breeds resentment, which is pretty damaging to the firendship. I see them in such situations, that they really need hte money back, but they dont want to bug the friend about it and cause tension.
Am I inaccurate in thinking someone who is generous enough to lend out money is also so that they'll feel embarrassed to ask for it back? Some of the reasonings my friends gave me were such that, "Oh I trust her, she'll pay me back" (its been 3 months, said friend says "oh we have lots of expenses" when she borrowed the money for something absolutely frivolous.....) or "money is money, I dont want to ruin a friendship over it" (its already ruined partly because of it).
I think I am pretty generous when it comes to giving my time and attention and feelings but after seeing what other went through, never wiht my money. I'm not talkign about hanging out with friends and paying for food/coffee/other minor stuff and wheN i do i dnt ever xpect em to pay it back... I've been taken advantage of in teh past in many other ways, so I guess thats also why I'm very cautious about not being a total idiot and letting someone take advantage of me....
Re: Money Issues....
How many perfume bottles do you need? One should learn to differentiate between want and a need.
Re: Money Issues…
^ Kaleem the perfume was just an example, basically i’ll think 100 times before buying one expensive things but if u put me in a cheaper store, ill hav slightly less control.. :hinna:
Re: Money Issues....
if im earning myself...i wont feel guilty about spending it (no matter how much)....if its someone elses money...id feel guilty about spending it. strange.
Re: Money Issues....
Need and want are very relative to the kind of dough you have to spend and how you were brought up.
The golden rule: Chadar daikh kar paooN phailaoo.
Re: Money Issues....
Its a phase, and nothing is absolute.
Women are more sensitive due to hormonal influence,
thus we react in many shapes and sizes.
Some months I spend 1500 kr. in total for enjoyment
and grocery etc. Other months, I simply spend perhaps
4-5000 kr. At the end of day, as long as I save up for
pvt pension, savings, committees...then its ok to spend
too.
We have five weeks vacation annually with pay.
I always put it a side and work same time.....

ermm....
ok
LOL! sorry but that was such a bizarre statement to make!
Re: Money Issues....

Who is asking you to "take" interest? I just give away all the interest (at year end) to some Christian charity. Do the same!
Re: Money Issues....
Depends.....we can not generalize it but yes it is a kind of sensitive topic. I find those people cheap who would borrow money with the promise to give it back and won't even talk about it for months and months.......
But the society here is pretty money oriented..........and over loaded with super cheap people (I am referring to gora community) ...... super duper cheap....I have a friend of mine who always keep complaining about her bad job and is a thrifty which is not a bad thing but whenever we would go out I am the one who ends up paying for her Mostly.
I have started feeling that I am being misused....even if I would go to Zellers or Dollar store ...she will pretend to be going with me with zero intention of shopping....and finally would show up with three bags in her hand and excuse O, I don't have change on me.
I feel we should definitely take care of our friends ...... but friends who deserve ........not of those who would exploit you.
Now I have a question.......yesterday I called this friend of mine ...and asked her to go for Coffee.......she came to my place and right away she went like......O , do you have 20 dollars on you?........and I had 20 dollars ON me......which are OFF me now and are with her........and I am sure she would never gimme my 20 Dollars back.....I am not mad on her taking my few bucks I am mad the way she never miss any chance to exploit me and would cover up her self simply saying ..We are North Americans this is the way we have been brought up....so what’s the opinion of you gupies.............
Should I be cheap like that N.A and ask her to gimme my Greenie Bill back?
Or should I be like nice and sweet Desun and stay Quiet.
I am at the end of my tether with her
