Ofcourse to a poor man living on the street, money is everything. The more he gets, the happier he becomes. However, there is a certain threshold beyond which (when you begin to enter in the luxurious/elite class of society), the graph between happiness vs money becomes constant.

Even according to Maslow, there is a time when a person is satisfied with money and stuff and what the person wants is self actualisation etc. So OldBoy is right.

Money by itself buys nothing, but it definitely helps.
whether it is happiness from helping others, or opportunities to learn.
it provides the security and accessibility to things, experiences, etc.
so on its own it does little but applied properly it can play an important part.
it can not solve everything that may be keeping a person from being happy though.

Been there done that believe me money aint everything 
I once earned pice selling gas cans for sod all but it was a hard life and a happy one.
Now i’m earning fat loot and am a respected citizen but part of me is not happy compared to when i was a lot poorer.
But then again thats probably cos i’m a Paindoo
