Brother STP:
Koun jeeta hai tere zulf ke sar honay tak...
i dont understand this...wot dus it mean?
Re: Mom's words
Oh oh, Im terrible in translation, Aashi.
Zulf is a hairlock...often descirbed on women..you know the way it curls at tip? It looks very sophisticated (sorry for any typos its ma break)....often used as explicit expressions by great/romantic poets....
errrr i lack words. Lets ask our poet Mod to give us a hand.....? PLZ? AQ?
I promise not to bug you :-)
Re: Mom’s words
Thanks, Evilmastermind.
Beshuk, its a sweet way to say..Im disappointed.
Re: Mom’s words
beautiful advice :k: ![]()
its hard to elaborate it into english but i think it roughly means, like, you are spending so much time on combing up your hair or making up your hairstyle, no matter who lives or dies.
who lives till your hair is done
who lives to see your hairstyle being conquered/done
sar means to conquer

Re: Mom’s words
My mom says the same thing :k:
But the thing thats engraved on my heart is, “maths mein 100 number na hoon tu hamaray liye yea F grade kay braber hai”.
Re: Mom’s words
kabhi kissey ka bura nahi socho

Re: Mom's words
" Never lose hope, always learn from your mistakes "
Re: Mom's words
"Jo na manay baron ki seekh, thakra lekay mangay bheek". It pretty much means if you do not appreciate(or listen to) an experienced/respected elderly person's advise, you will most likely fail. Overtime, I have found that to be very true; so listen to your parents.
"bara bol kabhi mat bolo" Basically, it means don't be arrogant rather appreciate and be grateful for what you have.
That's exactly what my mom says too.
Re: Mom's words
Pathani- my dada used to say something very similar!
Aah ko chaahiye ik umr asar honay tak...... kaun jeeta hai, teri zulf kay sar honay tak....
Re: Mom's words
^ JazakAllaj khair. Reminds me of another Iqbal's shair. (Which is also among the advices my dad used to give me )
"Manzil ki justujoo mein kyun bhatak raha hai rahi
Tu itna azeem ho ja ke manzil tujhey pukarey"
So true...recently I heard a proffessor say something along the same lines that the passion of doing the right thing..(focus) should become an obsession to you:)
Re: Mom's words
Not by my Mom and Dad but something that I really like, get inspired by and wanted to share:
Bujj jaye shamma tou jal sakti hai
Kashti hadd-e-tofaaN se guzar sakti hai
Himmat na haar, iraadey na badal
Taqdeer kisi wakt bhi badal sakti hai
Re: Mom's words
^ Beautiful, now these words are written on a paper attached infront of my table.
JazakAllah khair everyone. Some of the comments are very much the same as my parents used to tell me.
One more,
"If your friend can get the top position in college, why can't you ? He is also a human like you and doesn't possess anything more than you " :~)
the passion of doing the right thing..(focus) should become an obsession to you:)
Well said

Another similar one:
If one can become a doctor, so can the other.
^ This applies to almost every profession which requires a lot of hard work and dedication such as Engineering etc...People tend to think that Doctors are fallen from sky or something with special abilities not posessed by others. This is not true. No doubt that it requires hard work but I believe others, if they put their mind to it, can accomplish it too. Professions like these require hard work and and that's all. To prove it, let me relate an incidnent.
One of my profesor was telling us that when he was back in high school, there were few friends with him who weren't that great at studying (ie. used to get grades like Ds and Fs because they didn't care nor did they pay attention). But right after they got out of high school and put their mind in studying, they started climbing the ladder of sucess. Almost every other person in high school thought they would not succeed in life but now almost all of them are doing either Master or PhD.
Re: Mom's words
^ Well said brother.
I am living away from ami jaan for quite sometime now. Recalling the times in my childhood when I didn't use to give much importance to her words bring tears to my eyes.
I so wish to live with my mom, but sometimes nature make you realize the true value of anything after it is taken away.

Could not have said it better myself. Very true. :)
Then which of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?
Re: Mom's words

Re: Mom's words
My dad has given me so much more then i deserve be it love and blessings or materialistic things..and he still keeps on saying that he loves me so much and wishes that he could give me even more and tries his best but all he wants in return is that i stay happy and earn the respect that i deserve ...
