Any words of mom / dad that got engraved on your heart forever ?
one I remember,
“No profession is itself good, but the one in which you perform good.”

"whassup, son?"
Re: Mom's words
STP, good thread!
nice and caring parents have confidence in their child's ability to decide for themselves things & people, which s/he may want to adapt in life. regarding this, one advice i am lucky to have received is: "when you are sure of yourself, then you can do your best and Allah will help you if things are to be in your favor, but if you are unsure of what you want to do in the first place, it will cause delay in your ability to achieve what you want."

Re: Mom's words
Iv'e heard a couple of ppl saynig this: "there r 2 types of duas, (1) the type you have to think about and intentionally make, and (2) the one that comes out of your heart without you thinking about it"... My Mum says I get the second type :)
Re: Mom's words
Very nice sharing. JazakAllah khair.
My baba always used to say this in my childhood,
"Give your best try and leave the rest to Allah. Hope for the best and be ready for the worst"
Re: Mom's words
Contrary to the thread....i used to say to my mum..apparently!
"Maan, main bara ho kai incredible hulk banoun gha"
Re: Mom's words
^ And I guess the reply of your mom used to be;
" Mera beta to incredible Hulk se bhi ziyada incredible hai":D
^ Because this is what all moms think about their son :)
p.s Joking please don't mind.
Re: Mom's words
Nah doubt it! lol
But yeh all kids are incredible where there mums are concerned
Re: Mom's words
My mom always says look above you and you will never be satisfied with your achievements, look below you and you will always be happy.
Re: Mom's words
My mom always says expectations invariably lead to disappointments. Have hope but not to the point of living in disillusionment...
Re: Mom's words
"Never miss your prayers!"....oh miss mom soooooooo muucccccccchhh
Re: Mom's words
In childhood I used to be so tired after returning from school that almost everyday I used to hear this from my parents after I woke up
" Don't sleep in your uniform with shoes on, and that too on sofa "
embarrassed smile
Re: Mom's words
"Jo na manay baron ki seekh, thakra lekay mangay bheek". It pretty much means if you do not appreciate(or listen to) an experienced/respected elderly person's advise, you will most likely fail. Overtime, I have found that to be very true; so listen to your parents.
"bara bol kabhi mat bolo" Basically, it means don't be arrogant rather appreciate and be grateful for what you have.
Re: Mom's words
when he'll have nothing to eat, he'll be willing to eat anything
- My Dad
on me being nakhray baaz about not eating rice. And that prophecy came true after I moved to US. Boiled rice, white rice, black rice, brown rice, red rice - everything & anything goes now.
Re: Mom's words
from my dad
"har haath milaney wala dost nahi hota"
Re: Mom's words
Really a thoughtful thread STP...My ami always used to repeat Allama Iqbal's words which are
"khudi ko kar bullandh itna ke har taqdeer se pehle khudaa bandeh se pooche...bata teri raza kya hai"
It took me a while for it to finally sink in:)
Re: Mom's words
^ JazakAllaj khair. Reminds me of another Iqbal's shair. (Which is also among the advices my dad used to give me )
"Manzil ki justujoo mein kyun bhatak raha hai rahi
Tu itna azeem ho ja ke manzil tujhey pukarey"
Re: Mom’s words
Brother STP:
When I didnt follow up upon promises or something practical, my late babajaan would say:
And a fav. poem my babajaan used to quote quite often:
Khud ko kar buland itna,
ki har taqdeer se pehley.
Khuda khud bandey se poochey,
Bataa,“Teri raza kya hain?”
Translation:
O man! wake up and make yourself so strong that,
God himself will ask you before he pens your destity “tell me ye man,
what you want your destiny to be!”
My darling mum:
Guftum ki na guftum…? Didnt I tell you so? :rotato:
Re: Mom's words
^ JAzakAllah khair sister for a beautiful sharing.
My baba also used to quote this shair of Iqbal. (still does sometimes)
"Taqdeer ke Qazi ka yeh fatwa hai azal se
Hai Jurm-e-Zaifi ki saza marg-e-mafajaat"
Re: Mom's words
"You;ll know how I feel when you have kids of your own".. and in extreme cases.. my mom adds... "and they do/say the same thign to you"... thats when i get scared before saying/doing anything ... hehehe...
"Ma sirf ma nahi hoti magar SuB seeee achi dost hoti hai"
i love my mom more than anythinggg.................. aghh may Allah SWT grant her the bestttttt in this duniyah and the highest level in Jannah amongst teh best of the believers. Ameen
