Thought of going back into time to remember some amazing moments in
Pakistan cricket.
Lets post those moments which you remember watching. Some of the guppies never witnessed or even if they did probably with the passage of time forgot.
There are alot of memorable moments but make sure you post those which you remember watching.
Let me start with Pakistan tour of England after the 1992 WC. Pakistan draw first blood in the test series after winning a sensationsal second test match of the series at Lords. After playing major roles with the ball, the 2 W’s played important roles with the bat in the final innings. Pakistan needing 138 runs in the final innings were 8 down for 95 and Wasim and Waqar rescued Pakistan from a certain defeat. The 2 contributed in an undefeated 46 runs partnership in difficult batting conditions and snatched victory form England.

Saeed Anwar's innings of 194 against india
Re: Moments to remember
M. Asif devestating bowling performance :halo: in the last test match at Khi 06 which destroyed India.
Re: Moments to remember
The first ever World series, Carlton n United series, victory for Pakistan back in 1997. Hardly you will ever see Australia not qualifying for the best of the 3 finals.
Still remember Pakistan dominating Aussies during most of the tournament, thanks to inspiring captaincy of Akram and Saqlain who was a magician during the series specially for Australians with his mystery ball. Still remember how Akram so conveniently use to hand him over the ball during the final overs. Pakistan won alot of low scoring matches during that tournament thanks to saqlain. Ijaz ahmed as usual was higly impressive in Australia. The first time I saw a spinner bowling pacy deliveries was when Afridi destroyed the stumps of Graig Blewett:D
Mohammad Wasim was impressive during the series and commentators regarded him as Pakistani Mark Waugh.
Pakistan dominated the Windies during the best of the 3 finals and winning it eventually by 2-0. Remember a deadly bouncer from Ambrose which hit Afridi on the helmet and than Afridi like a maniac hit the next ball for a four leaving Ambrose stunned.
Overall it was a magnficant performance by Pakistani team which resulted in one of the biggest acheivement of our ODI history after WC 1992.

World Cup 1992 Semi-Final](http://usa.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/WORLD_CUPS/WC92/NZ_PAK_WC92_ODI-SEMI1_21MAR1992.html):
New Zealand had surprisingly been the team to beat in that World Cup. Pre-tournament favs, Aussies, had an aweful tournament. At the end, Pakistan were banking on Aussies to defeat West Indies, and they did. Pakistan had trounced New Zealand in the group match, on a small ground, where NZ had already qualified for semis. The atmosphere for the Semi Final was completely different, though. NZ won the toss and elected to bat. And piled up 262 runs in the alloted 50 overs. It was a big score at that time. Pakistan’s reply was indifferent, with Aamir Sohail out cheaply at the score of 30. Imran Khan came one down and steadied the ship. He made 44 runs in 93 balls. While it did provide some stability to the innings, the run rate was slow and the required run rate had gone up alarmingly. After Imran was out, followed by Malik, a sleepy-eyed Inzi walked in.
At that time, almost all Pak supporters were having a hard time imaging how our team will get out of this hole. Miandad, extremely talented run-getter, was never a power-hitter, and the situation was beyond ones-and-twos. What followed then was an unimaginable display of sheer batting ability. The sleepy-eyed Inzi, looking almost bored out there (an expression he still carries todate), single-handedly butchered the mediocre NZ bowling attack. He clobbered 60 runs in 37 balls, hitting 7 fours and a six. By the time he left, our score was 227 and we were withing spitting distance of the NZ total. Miandad stayed till the end, and some helpful hitting by Moin Khan ensured we made it to the final. Pakistan got the target with six balls to spare. Inzi was awarded Man of the match. The story of the final is stuff of legends (Akram’s two wickets in two balls being the most famous), but for me, the remarkable turn around in the semi final is what characterized Pakistan’s famous victory in the World Cup.
Re: Moments to remember
Recent last wall win against India in which Tendulkar bowled the last over was also remarkable. Pakistan has played good cricket in recent past except this last lost to India
Re: Moments to remember
Watch Pak win the test series against India , at Karachi NSK in 1978 - I was there on the last day as Pak chased a target with Asif and Miandad chasing a smallish total - etched in my brain forever !
Re: Moments to remember
Pakistan vs Srilanka in Sharjah; (dont remember the year) I think Wasim Akram was the captain, Pakistan got all out for 80 something and then Razzay dazzle the Srilankans and that match was a draw, thanks to some great swing bowling by old Razzy :k:
Asif Mujhtaba the under-rated batsman but played innings of his life in Australia, Pakistan made a comeback batting second, Australia at Hobart in 1992-93, when he took 16 off Steve Waugh’s last over - including a big six over midwicket off the final ball - to grab an unlikely tie.
wonderful game ![]()
and…
He hit an unbeaten 60 in his fourth one-dayer to pull off an unlikely one-wicket win over Australia at Perth in 1986-87
Re: Moments to remember
pakistan vs england, natwast challenge, which pak won by 2 runs ![]()
Re: Moments to remember
Oh yes I remember in India there was “Hero Cup” Pakistan won against India, Wasim Akram came good with the bat hitting a sixer on the last ball (I think!) its an oldie goldie match as well .

Re: Moments to remember
Acrobi I guess you are talking about NEHRU CUP back in 1989. It was a mini world cup event featuring almost all the sides.
Pakistan beat England in the semi final and the than the favourite Windies in the final. Akram hit a six on the second last ball of the match of the bowling of Richards. Khan Sahib played a real captains knock scoring around 60*
Yes it was a memorable victory.
Re: Moments to remember
Oh yea thats the one
:k: thanks for the correction of the title
Re: Moments to remember
Oh yea Pakistan win against South Africa at home that was one of the good times as well when we thought we’ve found the solution of our opening
(Taufeeq Umer and Imran Farhat).
Re: Moments to remember
Australasia Cup 1990- Although Pakistan successfully defended the title but I always remember the tournament because it marked the start of Waqar Younis era, when Pakistan new sensation Waqar Younis made his presence felt in the international arena.
Before the start of the tournament, Waqar younis captured around 20 ODI wickets in roughly the same number of matches.
However, during that tournament he captured 17 wickets in 4 matches and demolished India, Srilanka, NZ and Australia. It was a treat to watch his fiery spells of inswinging yorkers and stumps flying inthe air. Waqar was named Man of the Tournament and from there on there was no looking back.
Re: Moments to remember
Two of the greatest moments in sub-continent history:
-
Anil Kumble vs. Pakistan - 10 Wickets in 1 Innings (New Delhi - Feb 1999)
-
Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka - Tied In Sharjah - Razzaq at his best

Re: Moments to remember
^^ thanks alot Dhobi bhai
:k:
Re: Moments to remember
Oh I got one match to add:
The first test match between Pak and India after a gap of 10yrs. I think it was in Jan 1999 in Madras and Pak won by only "12" runs. I still can't forget the wickets of Saqlain Mushtaq and the standing ovation given by the Madrassi crowd to the Pak win despite of their win. Really, that was a worth watching site.

Pakistan tour of NZ,2003/2004-2nd and Final Test
http://usa.cricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/2003-04/PAK_IN_NZ/SCORECARDS/PAK_NZ_T2_26-30DEC2003.html
After the drawn first test, all was depending on the 2nd and final test. Kiwis after frustrating Pakistan bowlers with their late middle order and tail end partnerships, than dismissed Pakistan cheaply in the first innings.
With a lead of 170 runs, Kiwis were all set to give Pakistan a huge final innings target to clinch the series. But Shoaib Akhtar had other ideas. After already grabbing 5 wickets in the first innings, he massacred the Kiwis at Basin Reserve. His electrifying spell of fast bowling resulted in a memorable NZ batting collaspe from 93-3 to 103 all out. Shoaib took 11 wickets in the match.
However Shoaib was not the only one who made the highlights during that match. Inzi, once again demonstrated his lack of cricketing knowledge when he didn’t take the avalaible option to extend play by 30 minutes on the 4th day while chasing the target of 274. Pakistan were 246 for 3 and needed 29 runs to win the match, but naive inzi obviously didn’t know that he can wrap up the series the same day by taking extra 30 minutes.
It was an awful decision of taking the match to the final day with just 29 runs needed, knowing that there was the forecast of all day showers in Wellington for the next day.
As expected, weather factor did come into play on the final day and showers didn’t allow the Pakistan batsmen to finish the game until afternoon. When play finally started, it took less than 4 overs to clinch the match.
A memorable match which could have become a horrible nightmare for Inzi.
Download and enjoy Shoaib’s memorable performance in the match

I also found the KK link for that series and match. I was not here on GS but definitely those who were there will have fun while going through their posts, specially when Kiwis were taking the match away from Pakistan:jhanda:

Re: Moments to remember
1954, most of us were not even born by that time, I consider him dashing super hero of Pakistan bowling, who gave birth to Pakistan fast bowling, A captain and I am sure there is no doubt he was a heart throb at that time. He engineered the Pakistan first victory against England in England in 1954-55, better yet
first victory
I remember that my dad told me that my grand dad and uncle use to talk about his performance.
Before the 1996 world cup PTV use to show the series of golden moment of cricket and previous world cups and short interviews…etc there was a piece about Fazal Mahmood and I recall they said and then later I read it in various cricket articles about Fazal Mahmood’s performance, its the golden moment and its the best moment ever! for Pakistan Cricket: and how can you forget this: **“England Fazal-ed”
**IMO The best moment ever! :k:
