Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Re: Mom, Dad, I’m not a Muslim and I’m gay

Maybe it is considered being human, with all the faults associated with being a human? What is it they say those who live in glass house should not throw stones at others?
As for the word retarded, one should probably not use it, since it represents someone with mental illness.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

I think this thread disproves your hypothesis

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

I do not believe she claimed that having sex and drinking was liberation.

As for her coment about belly dancers, she was stating a fact - in certain parts of the middle east, I hear belly dancers do exist for the pleasure of men - while society at large requires most women to cover themselves.

She was just pointing out the hypocrisy of this disconnect.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Good to know you think being Muslim is synonymous with being anti-GBLT. Good way to repay the parents of this girl don't ya think?

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Most of them are on the Nile cruise ships and they are all ex-soviets. Not even Muslims.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

we can call everything hypocracy .......

while cow slaughter is banned india lot of hindus eat beef in usa....

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Correct Yourself Ninja !! Cow Slaughter Is Banned Only In Some States Not In Every Part Of India :D !! Even In India Many Hindus Eat Beef :)

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

I am justforming an opinion from the feedback in this forum on this topic. I wish I was wrong - because I would like everyone to be respected, irresective of background.

anyway, I dont want to make this religion specific - so let me include my religion also here. Not as if Hinduis, (or even Christianity) is a champion of gay rights.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Hypocrisy is not specific to any religion - so your point is well taken. IMO, religious extremism and hypocrisy go hand in glove.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

yes BM u r right

i heard that in karnataka BJP lifted ban on cow slaughter?

my point is that ;as belly dancing is enjoyed by few muslim men then asking women to do hijab is hypocracy....isn't that equally applicable to cow slaughter....thats all ur honor

Re: Mom, Dad, I’m not a Muslim and I’m gay

OK - this is for all the pro-GBLT folks - another hero we can celebrate - who went against the grain. Good for her.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Kinda like how people formed opinions of Islam based on 9/11. Well done. Just to point. A vast majority who posted have an issue with her being termed a hero. Not that she is gay. I couldn't give a flying **** who she sleeps around with or how many she does it with. It however is an insult to compare her to the likes Mandela or Desmond Tutu who are true heroes.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Point taken. she certainly is not a hero in that mold - however in the eyes of some, it took courage on her part - so she is referred as such.

I agree that the word hero is being thrown around too loosely. Good discussion. (Hope you had a good Valentine's day with the cat and roomies :))

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

^^ Just read your post closely. I did not form an opinion of the religion - I formed an opinion of the folks who follw religionn owadays (be it Islam, Hinduism, Christianity) who are narrow minded.

To the best of my knowledge, all religions preach tolerance. Wouldn't know it by some of the responses. So I would say a big fail on your part to link my response to those who formed an image of muslims after 9/11.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

LOL! Not fail I was trolling. Trying to instigate an argument. I am bored. That is how my valentines went. Very very boring.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

What is this Choti Aapa.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

^^ OK - happy trolling!

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Oh come on Southie sahib it doesn't hurt if you do it in moderation :-) Like drinking cigarette.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

she may be a hero in the eyes of other GLBT of iranian origin who are afraid to come out of the closet.
she may also be a hero for people who are willing to take a stance which is going to be hugey unpopular in their communities but they feel that its right.

Generally a non issue for most, however, when we see that in some fringes issues like hour killings still exist, and then assorted level of oppression.suppression...for girls as well as guys, her stance could be meaningful. I think the number and level of control tends to get exaggerated. I mean in US, if someone even has a very conservative family and community, the individual always has the ability to just go live an independent life and not make waves unless they want to.

I do wonder how ladies take the two views she has of muslim women...because I see plenty of successful women just on this site, whether they are in school, in a career or stay at home moms, I doubt many..or any fall into either of those two groups (if someone is a belly dancer, please PM me though nudge nudge wink wink...say no more)
