Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

An Iranian American woman has described the heart-stopping moment she told her parents she had rejected Islam - and came out as a lesbian.
Over a cup of coffee in a Maryland cafe, Najva Sol said that she been living a lie her entire life with a Western lifestyle of boozing and partying which her parents had forbidden.
The 21-year-old also admitted that she had regularly watched porn film and was having sex with men, although she preferred women.

In an interview Miss Sol revealed that she was born in the U.S. but moved back to Iran before her parents returned to America when she was seven.
The family settled in Rockville, Maryland where her father, an engineer, did not allow her to go to parties and banned cable TV from their home.

By the time she was a teenager, however, she had already begun to rebel.

Miss Sol told the Washington Post: ‘My childhood sex talk was: ‘Don’t do it.’ This is where we left off, and here is where we picked it up again.
‘I was drinking, having sex and lying to my parents back then. I began to realise I needed to get out of here, grow up.’

‘Muslim women are either belly-dancing members of a harem, reduced to body parts that someone else controls, or shrouded in black cloth with no desire and having no sex.

‘The truth is that like all women, we feel and love and have heartbreak.’

and your point is??

or its just one of them traffic threads??? :rotfl:

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

My point is, we're finally coming to new modern better times for Muslims. And I do love how the writer made is sound amazing and as if she's a hero. Actually, maybe she is a hero.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

The only thing I agree with in the article is about how Muslim women are only ever seen as two things - the burqa-clad woman or the belly dancer. The moderate, modern muslim woman is never really discussed or portrayed in the media.

Other than that, I don't think her story is remarkable or anything. You don't have to be a Muslim in order to be scared of telling your parents that you are gay and do not want to follow their religion. A kid from any religion and culture has the same fears going into that conversation with their parents.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Agreed

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Oh man, did the broad have to be this ugly? I guess all the boozing and partying did mature her too much! :(

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

^ That is one ugly thought process

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Better? For who exactly? If you find it better that people are placing more importance on sex than on the word of Allah and our faith then by all means that may mean better in your view. I hardly think its better. I think its just a symptom of our people losing their focus and forgetting the faith and origins.

If she is a hero for being a homosexual then a majority of the GLBT people are heroes and well then the word hero loses all meaning.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Someone said she may be a hero especially because of her background. Maybe the above post reinforces that.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

ya'll 1st gen ....... so you find it odd............. 3,4 generations later......... i guess muslims will be properly 'assimilated' in western society............ its only natural.

As someone said ' Are Allah's word important or sex ' ..don't we all know gayism/ lesbianism considered a grave sin?

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

:D

Every ****ed up time in the history was new and modern at some point.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

I guess then anybody who stands up for anything against their background is a hero - kinda meaningless isn't it. When a white guy isn't racist that makes him a hero as well right?

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

I don't know what to say, there is definitely some things wrong with her up bringing that made her convert. To me there is a lesson here if you push your children then they will go far away from religion make them understand Islam so they cannot be a disaster like her. Even good American families kids don't go that bad she is just a loser who thinks she has won but actually she has lost a lot.

Yesterday I too was reading this post and thought of sharing..astagfirullah why have muslims forgotten that one day we have to face Allah..why have they forgotten what islam says..i blame her upbringing..instead of forcing the religion upon their children parents should explain the real islam to them and then leave the decision on them whether to follow it or not..once they get to know the real islam they wouldnt hate or abandon it..

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

She must be a hero in the G&L clubs, because you know she's broken this huge barrier and setting a strong example for future G&L's.

Re: Mom, Dad, I’m not a Muslim and I’m gay

Boozing and having illegitimate sex [kuttay/billiyon ki tarah - as they say] defines ‘growing up’ ? :smack: :konfused: :cadet: Retarded !

Re: Mom, Dad, I’m not a Muslim and I’m gay

I love dailymail…just had to say :phati:

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay

Gay and Lesbions are not good examples for society.

Re: Mom, Dad, I'm not a Muslim and I'm gay
