**Mohammad Yousuf should not retire - Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi, Pakistan’s captain for the upcoming ICC World Twenty20, has called on Mohammad Yousuf to reconsider his decision to retire from international cricket. Yousuf, banned indefinitely by the PCB in the aftermath of a disastrous tour of Australia, is expected to make a formal announcement on Monday.

“I think Yousuf is taking an emotional decision, but I think he must reconsider his decision because he still has a lot to give to Pakistan cricket,” Afridi was quoted as saying by PTI. "Yousuf I think has been affected by the recent happenings and is upset with the ban on him, but he is a senior player and he must handle the situation. He must not take an emotional decision.

“We have a lot of Test matches coming up in next 10 to 12 months and we need his experience against the top teams like Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand.”

Yousuf has over seven thousand Test runs from 88 Tests at 53.07, the highest for any Pakistani batsman. He has 39 international hundreds, including 24 in Tests alone

Yousuf was among seven Pakistan players penalised, for various reasons after a winless tour of Australia. Younis Khan and Yousuf were banned indefinitely for “infighting” and “attitude” that, the PCB said, was a “bad influence” on the team. Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan were handed one-year bans, while Shahid Afridi and the Akmal brothers were fined and placed on probation for six months.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

Yousaf had given the right response, if he is that BAD and has been banned from cricket for some reason only Ijaz BUTT knows, then he should retire...

Cheers for Ijaz BUTT for bringing Pakistan cricket down

Cheers for Yawar Saeed and other officials for their hard and tiring work to bring the Asian Cricket Giant to its knees...

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

don't worry guys...you can still watch him in the IPL next year.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

^^ The worry is not about Yousuf!!! it never was, the worry is about that the great players like him tends to leave because of great work done by Ijaz Butt and his company...

As far as Yousuf or anyother cricketer is concerned, they can play IPL or COUNTY or whatever other games they like, it is their right and no body can criticize them for doing it..

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

regardless of whos right or wrong in the matter, what we should acknowledge is that its sad that our cricketers end their careers bitterly for themselves and for their fans. yea they're not perfect and they shoot themselves in the foot but they deserve better from themselves, those who manage them and us.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

a great loss for pakistan.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

Another wonderful cricketer's career cut short by couple of years by PCB (yousuif's ego also has a part to play in this).

Someone wrote correctly in Jang that he was not the batsman, he was the poet crafting beautiful poetry on the pitch. After all the service to Pakistan, one need better explanation from PCB than "your inclusion in team is harmful for the team". Thank you Mr Ijaz Butt for nothing !

I hope he does not take the decision back and in that case .... get ready for 6-0 tour of England.

And Pakistan continues to slide towards being Zimbabwe/West Indies.

Cricinfo - Blogs - Pak Spin - Yousuf, wait a while

The purge of Pakistan’s cricketers has claimed an unexpected victim. Mohammad Yousuf may have captained the team poorly in the recent series in Australia and New Zealand. He may have performed below his usual high standards. He may have fallen foul of his fellows and the cricket board. But there were still Test runs in his cricket bat.

It is a dreadful situation that Pakistan’s most exquisite Test batsman feels compelled to retire from the game that made him. Pakistan cricket still needs its MoYo, especially with a testing summer of cricket in England to come. Without him, and perhaps Younis Khan, Pakistan’s middle order will be a horror show.

**Yousuf could have stuck it out, fought the ban, but why should he? The PCB’s mismanagement has wrought this outcome. Yousuf was elevated to a captaincy that was beyond him - he didn’t appoint himself captain. Indeed, if the PCB was unhappy with his behaviour it should not have rewarded him with the captaincy.

When the poor fellow was clearly out his depth, in the middle, in the media, and in private, the PCB did little to support, guide, or gag him. The final insult was announcing the end of his captaincy before the Australia tour had ended.

To punish him now - along with Younis - is absolute nonsense and a national disgrace. I can understand his decision to quit this world of injustice. Yousuf may not have been the easiest fellow to command or control but such is the way of talent. How many great players have been infuriating personalities?

Once more, the PCB has failed Pakistan cricket and the Pakistani people. That’s what you get when people are promoted beyond their capabilities.**

In Pakistan cricket, as we all know, a retirement isn’t necessarily the final act. Yousuf surely has at least a couple of years of productive Test cricket left in him. I hope he can be persuaded to wait a while. Pakistan cricket still needs his lofty elegance.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

Indeed…its a very very sad way to say farewell to Pakistan cricket by Mohammad Yousuf…I wish him a great success and good luck elsewhere… :jhanda:

Pakistan cricket loses a great batsmen due to the incompetence and stupidity of PCB.

KARACHI: Senior batsman Muhammad Yousuf has announced his retirement from international cricket in protest at the indefinite ban imposed on him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), ARY NEWS reported.

“I have made up my mind to retire from international cricket as the PCB considers my presence in the national squad may harm the complete team,” the former captain told a news conference here Monday.

He said he always strived sincerely to bring success to Pakistan, asking for apology from the nation “if I ever hurt anyone’s feeling”.

Yousuf, who has played 88 tests and 282 one-day internationals, said he was fed up with the way he had been treated by the board and felt insulted by the ban imposed on him earlier this month.

The PCB banned Yousuf and another former captain, Younis Khan indefinitely on the recommendations of an inquiry committee that looked into the team’s poor performances in Australia and reports of infighting in the team.

Differences between the two players had affected the team, the committee said in its report.

“I don’t want to say anything more at this stage except that this ban is unfair and I have served my country diligently,” Yousuf, 35, said.

Yousuf said he “don’t’ want to disturb the national cricket”, adding that he will decide to appeal against PCB ban “after consulting my elders”.

Yousuf, who won the International Cricket Council (ICC) test batsman of the year award in 2006 for his record-breaking spree of run-scoring when he got nine centuries, originally retired from international cricket when he joined the unofficial Indian Cricket League in 2007 but later returned to play for Pakistan.

I agree Ravage and so it appears that the list of our greats retiring unceremoniously now inlcudes Mohammad Yousuf. Names like Javed Miandad, Wasim, Waqar, Saeed Anwar come to my mind when I think of this list. Wish someday I could see some great from Pakistan retiring like Steve Waugh, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath.

Having said that, I strongly think he will eventually take his decision back.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

This means from now on Imran Nazir is the most elegant stroke player in the Pakistani team.

it's most likely a drama.

but if it isn't, then bye bye Maulana Nautanki.

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

good decision! this team does not deserve him.

Do you know what a Maulana is?.. if not, why are you designating this term with yousuf whom you know isn't a Maulana?..

Or you're just teasing.. hmm, well, you may tease using other terms.. but not certainly using a religious terms, the very same term whom the Nabi(SAW) had emphasised alot upon.. hope you understand brother:)

true

Re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

from cric-info comments James from UK

*"We all get what we deserve, and the Pakistani public have now lost a wonderful batsman, because the nation does not deserve him. Plain and simple.

What is most infuriating with the Pakistanis, in every walk of life, is that every Tom Dick and Harry will wave banners and burn effigies for totally ridiculous reasons, and yet no one will budge an eyelid when incompetent PCB and politicans go about systematically dismantling and destroying the only real source of national entertainment for the masses. Well done all you Pakistanis for hiding under your blouses when you should be demanding justice. Stand up and be counted or these leeches will leave nothing standing in your slowly decaying nation."
