Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

1 - Number One Newspaper of Pakistan - Daily Jang- Jang Group

A good sensible cricketer who still has a lot of cricket left in him
its sad to see him go like this

Clearly failure of pakistan's administration. Only in pakistan does it happen that if players dont do well they are treated as if they have committed some heiniuos crime. The whole debacle in Australia was treated by pak administration with unncessary overreaction. You can't make players play under extreme fear and power. Its a sport and treat it like a sport. Look at zimbabwe, their govt has not sued the players because they have been playing since so many years but they have never won any major trounament. Why only in this county does it happen that govt acts on players as if they are criminals??

So many crickets of pakistan ended their career in haste only because of the administration. What a waste of talent and talented country. Shame on you pakistan!!

Lets see what he'll take the decision back. I say sometime during this summer.

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

i hope he aint serious .......v really need him in the upcoming test series .....he have 2 3 years left with him IMO

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

I hope he is serious this time.
Why to play more cricket when you are treated like joke and trash.

Is he insulted by the PCB? - YES

He will be remembered as a great batsman who unfortunately didn't have leadership and communication skills. It is time to move on.

Right decision at the right time if he can stick to it.

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

It's sad to see him go like this. But that's they way PCB likes to treat the legends of of our cricket. I hope he gets a chance to retire with dignity.

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

an almost great batsman. the best we had since Inzi's emergence. very immature and unprofessional person like most of his teammates.

seemed to play for the country and was much more of a team man when he was Yousuf Youhana even if he didn't break all manners of records. the same cannot be said of Mohammad Yousuf.

used to be one of my absolute favorite players in the team till his ICL and captaincy shenanigans started a few years ago. sad end to what could have been all-time great career. though one never knows with Yousuf. he might take this retirement back if given a big enough lollipop.

I had hope that perhaps he'll be the first Pakistani batsmen to reach 10,000 test runs but I guess the ego plays its part too and the PCB board mess started this whole problem. he should never have been made captain for the Aussie tour and now blamed for the failure, although that team couldnt do much against good oppositions. ** I do believe that his ego plays a role in his retirement now, and in the past when he joined ICL. If he plays for the country and for the people of the country, then he should just take how unprofessional the board is and appeal against the ban and even sue them for it. ** We certainly will need him in England this summer. And if all our futuer test series would be overseas, then we'll need him for sure. I can almost predict His replacement in middle order would be Faisal Iqbal. GOD help us!

I like this statement on his cricinfo profile: "This much is at least certain that few Pakistani batsmen have been as elegant as Mohammd Yousuf and fewer still have been as prolific, as hungry to bat as long and bat as big."

Thats the best description I have ever seen for Moyo.... truly defines him

1) PCB handed him a ban and gave him an option to appeal against the ban. Moyo can appeal, but that will not create the news that moyo is trying to achieve. So he announces his retirement as his retirement will be a bigger news and might pressure PCB more than just the appeal.

He is just being a selfish attention whore and been one for a while.

I am predicting another statement from him (in near future) in which he will say "He is ready and willing to play under any captain because he ONLY wants to serve Pak"

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

What does his ego have to do with him being a great batsman? His personal issues aside, he is the best batsman in the team. He will always be mentioned among great batsmen. I will always remember him for his elegant strokes.

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

Sad very sad news. Great batsman helped Pakistan win so many games. The latest I can think of is Champions Trophy game and the match against India. His inngs was marvelous. He was the unsung hero made and broke World Records. His performance was mainly disturbed by PCB mismanagement and politics. For now his decision his correct. Hopefully, he comes back when there are changes in PCB.

C'mon A1, you are sounding like as if he is actually going to retire from cricket. If he really wanted to retire he could have announced it yesterday instead of saying that he is going to announce his retirement on Monday.

No one doubts that he is one of the great batsmen for Pakistan. He may not be a Tendi, Lara or a Ponting for the world of cricket but for Pakistan cricket his significance is no less than any of these three.

May be we'll hear another annoucement from him before Monday that he is comtemplating his retirement decision.

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

Great way to manipulate public opinion of our emotional awaam - sure shot way to pave his way back into the team.

The PCB is most certainly at fault for sidelining and reprimanding him for the series loss. They should just accept the fact that he aint captaincy material, and just move on...

While I support Moyo as a batsman and have the utmost regard for his abilities as a batsman, he keeps doing things which are unworthy of someone of his stature as a batsman and someone who is revered in the public also on the basis of his religious inclination.

Two thumbs down for Yousuf on his threatening and abandoning shenanigans that he's been engaged in for the last three years.

You lunatic, do you not see what he went through? If you had been in his shoes, you'd know what he went through.. and how this sialkoti(malik) acted like a pakistani saas and caused diversions within the team.

Shame on Ijab BUTT, the 72 year old baba who's got half of his legs under the grave yet persists on being an ass.. Shame on the whole PCB Management.

Hats off to Yousuf=)

Let the countdown to u-turn begin :D

My prediction is anytime before the summer test series in England

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

i feel sorry for him. i know its a move calculated to make me feel sorry but then what can u do. he was our best batsman in the 00s, his purple patch in 2006wont be forgotten, regardless of whether he uturns on the decision.

Well... we'll have to wait and see if he is playing a game here as majority of people here feel.

You have a point..

My only criticism of Yousuf is that he was never a great finisher like Miandad or Inzi. Although he played many good innings under pressure he never learnt how to finish a game often failing at the last hurdle

re: Mohammad Yousuf announces retirement from international cricket

Lesson! Do not take rest when you reach the highest point! keep on working else you may lose the spot!

When he made over 1000 runs in one calender year in 2007(?) he suddenly took a leave from cricket for few months or series, at that point he lost his rhythm, timing, and streak of centuries! after the return he could not recover! Later he joined ICL and lost the remaining respect!
Yousuf you are a great player, but you have done some blunders! but still we will love you always as hero! you are an honest and fine person but a little...
