I think the whole concept of mohajir is rather stupid. As I understand it mohajirs are those who came to pakistani cities during separation. Thus to distinguish them as such, and not make them feel as citizans of the country doesn’t make sense. I they are as much pakistani as those who have families that were already based in the pakistani cities.
based on your other thread, could you please explain how mohajirs who come from the clearly distinct looking population of bhindia could fit in with the native pakistanis even if they wished to?
Mr. Anil i m sorry but i dont think i understood ur post? U said mohajirs are those who came to Pak during separation rite? i m sorry i think i m confused with whtever u said. Separation of wht? r u talking about pak-india (hindustan)
yeah mohajirs are pakistanis and they should not be descriminated. But the problem is normally these days the term mohajir is used for urdu speaking mohajirs.Memons who speak memoni(mix of gujrati and sindhi) and the punjabi speaking mohajirs also migrated to pakistan are not labelled as muhajir.
The fact is it is the mistake of muhajirs as well as the locals because the urdu speaking muhajir kept on indentifying themselves as dehli walas,UPians,Biharis hyderabadi etc and not new sindhi or simply urdu speaking of sindh and the punjabi establishment sindhi natinalist forces also did prejudice and biast against them and labbeled them as traitor etc
Absolutely true! There were mainly Urdu speaking mohajirs and Punjabi mohajirs. They are as much part of Pakistan as any other ‘local’ groups.
I grew up in Punjab (my parents moved to Punjab long before partition) and my closest friends were Urdu-speaking Mohajirs. There were two differences: I spoke better Urdu, I had no girl friend.
Its great that we call them mohajirs, if Pakistanis are consistent in anything when it comes to race/ethnic/religious issues, it’s the name calling. Why get rid of it??
According to me, the ‘Mahajirs’ are the original Pakistanis…There is nothing else they should be called…
Punjabis, Balochis, Sindhi, Patthans were all that long before Pakistan and are still…However ‘Hindustanis’ when they migrated to Pakistan became ‘Pakistanis’…
i think muhajirs call themselves muhajir too so its not really a slur. and they do that because everyone else has an ethnic identity, so by default the remainder does fall into one group.
What we all need to do is eradicate ethnic and caste distinctions in Pakistan, sometimes we'll have to be diplomatic about it, other times we'll have to use force but it's neccesary for Pakistan's survival.
i think muhajirs are pakistani and in the end all this doesnt matter we are pakistani and this sort of a problem is a major concern in india not pak we are one and will remain one inshallah we should appreciate for what they did when they fought in india to come to pakistan but now they are pakistani while saying that they are urdu speaking well we all mostly speak urdu and we are pakistani thats the bottom line
if you look at that why all pakis that come from pakistan to america they are also known as muhajir because muhajir as a word itself means that one who migrates from one land to another not only those who migrated from india but where ever you go seriously we should stay united because this will help our counrty and future generation
i think they should only tell that their grandparents were from there and the rest they dont need to tell that they are from delhi or which ever city i think they only try to say themselves muhajir when other groups start saying we baluchi or we pathan or we what so in that case they say it but we should see ourselves as one because we live in one country and we feel for the country
Mohajirs is a political term not an ethnic one. But for all mohajirs, I thought the problem started cuz they did not mix well with the locals well and started during liaqat's time and peaked during the late 80s and 90s in Karachi
