Moderate Muslim

if you end up making a personal matter then .. do u think the devide is gona be 72 .. hell no it i ll be in trillions .. cos if every person is doing his/her own definition then .. ok they maybe not making it apparent to ppl ..then to Allah .. and hes gona say ..what on earth have u been ppl doing .. Allahs messenger said 72 sects .. and yu lot turned em into 72 billion gazzillion :@: :p

Ok great so I can’t even ask a question about my religion now coz its none of my business!

And who said anything about owning Islam? What does that even mean? Why do u always have to do that?

I guess I should whoop yo ass too… meanie! :naraz:

Logical fail.

Asking questions is OK, but getting all into people’s business is NOT.

What are you even arguing about? Go back to my original post and read again.

Re: Moderate Muslim

Honey we are not arguing or even fighting. Merely a request to gather more information on my faith. Nothing more. Also its generally good to humor the self-righteous amongst the more conservative Muslim crowd. They do more damage to Islam than the Taliban.

And its Ayat 31 of Surah Nur, from the translation I can get on the net. Thanks for the information FBI.

Yes, thats exactly it, u don't even know what I am arguing about.

I'd say a moderate Muslim is one who knows how to balance Deen and Dunya.

  • Lives in Dunya, but doesn't get engrossed in it so much that he forgets Deen.
  • Knows that at the end of the day he will have to return to his Lord and lives for His worship. All praise to Allah, He has given us more options than only 'salah' to be classified as 'worship'.
  • Doing everything on Dunya for the sake of pleasing Allah SWT. So it doesn't matter if you're cleaning your house or greeting your neighbour, as long as it doesn't go against the teachings of Islam.
  • Baaki... Allahu'Aalim.

Re: Moderate Muslim

In my view, Muslims are by definition Moderate... and the term is redundant... the Quran calls us Ummah Wasat which translates into a "middle-road" *or *“justly balanced” community. The scholars explain the term by pinpointing to verses from the Quran and ahadith that ordain us as an Ummah to abstain from religious extremism as well as sacrilegious behaviour - e.g.

“O People of the Book! Make no excess in your religion, trespassing beyond the truth, nor follow the vain desires of people who went wrong in times gone by, who misled many, and strayed (themselves) from the even Way." (al-Ma’idah: 77)

“The religion is easy and whosoever will deal with religion harshly, it will defeat him. So be straight, follow the middle course, give good news and make use of the morning, the evening or part of the night (in prayer and remebering Allah).” (Reported by Al-Bukhari)

We’re only struggling with the term today in order to dispel the radical elements who have strayed from the incontrovertible course of action that has been recommended to us by Allah and His Messenger (as evident from the excerpts posted above).

Re: Moderate Muslim

^ :k:

Excellent points! :k: - I’d just like to add something I heard once about the subject of balancing Deen and Dunya where a scholar said that Islam is about achieving a harmonious balance between revelation and reason ; between religion and the world ; and between this world and the world hereafter.

I think it nicely sums up that moderate/middle-road/balanced approach we’re talking about here.

But chilly then thats just a muslim isn’t he? Hazrat Mohammad saw had a perfect balance between deen and duniya…

What u have described would not be a moderate muslim in people’s view these days, unfortunately, he’d be more of a conservative muslim (if he is to do everything within the circles of Islam). Its people like Shahrukh Khan who’re considered moderate muslims in the present times… not people like our Rasool saw who have managed to achieve a harmonious balance between deen and duniya.

Excellent points both of you, Lucid and Chillz :hugz:

Re: Moderate Muslim

Both Chilly and LC have got the right end of the stick. Islam teaches us moderation therefore...

Now why are you getting your knickers in a twist over what labels the western media choose to give us? No one I know gives themselves any of these labels.

That is muslim. Not moderate, extreme or die hard or har-liner muslim or whatever.

And the word "hard-liner" is so popular these days! lol

Yes same labels can be placed on other religious people too.

why is it that the divinely guided momineen with their ninja burqas and uncontrollable facial foliage know more about Soha Ali Khan's steamy scenes and other assorted Bollywood masala than the secular, liberal pseudo-kufaar?

not that there is anything wrong with it. but it amuses me when you see mullahs on tv delivering their bakbak in the style of various film stars... and hearing Naats in Ramzan in Pakistan with tunes eerily similar to the latest Bollywood songs. someone has been spending more time admiring the curves of the latest bollywood bimbos than rote learning their Quran lesson. naughty moulvis....

but yeah, down with the moderates... they suck... boooo....

Thanks for ur views everyone.

Re: Moderate Muslim

okay so either one is muslim or one is not
now, by that token are ppl blowing up civilians in pakistani cities muslims?
similarly the ppl drinking, doing drugs,?
and are you a muslim.

is there any way you differentiate yourself from either of those type of people when interacting with someone who has either of those groups as frame of reference?

do you say they are extremists or really just muslims by name and you are closer to what the religion is? or do you say that niether of those two types (and others) are muslims and you are thr true muslim, or that everyone is a muslim and some are misguided in one area or another.

elaborate please.

I am the true muslim??

If u saw that thread on Life1, I have already mentioned that I know for a fact that I am going to hell. So those who're getting their knickers in a twist thinking this thread is about me boasting about myself and about mocking others, they can just chill and take a deep breath.

The point being made here is: Why so many divisions? What is the difference between a true muslim, a moderate muslim and a liberal muslim? This was my question.

Re: Moderate Muslim

This is not about you, but in general.

I understand the point being made here..and it reads fantastic on paper..but lets scratch the surface and see whats underneath..

I am asking a question to further get elaboration on the point..on dealing with these real world situation..

The answer can be very simple or very convoluted..so lets see what the answer is

Here's my very direct and simple answer:

If you practice the 5 pillars of Islam, You are a muslim. If not, then ur not.

You may be abiding by all 5 pillars but on top of that, you may also be drinking etc. In that case, you're still a muslim but a more sinful one, not a more moderate one.
