I was thinking that exact same thing. It's all psychological tricks.
I hope Pakistani batsman know something that others don't.. it may work out for them afterall.

I would'nt spend too much time worrying about this really. If coaching made a player, India would have the best bowling line up in the world a long time ago. How long has Dennis Lillee had his academy in India for?
Akram should be able to do whatever he wants to, no one has the right to tell him who he can or can't coach.

Also I don't see what all the fuss about this Pathan guy is... His stats certainly are'nt overly impressive. I have a feeling the big deal is just because of that one article where Wasim was supposedly giving him inside tips.

Pakistan’s Akram defends lessons to Indian bowlers](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)

NEW DELHI (AFP) - Pakistan’s former fast bowling great Wasim Akram has taken a swipe at team-mate Javed Miandad for suggesting he had passed on “secrets” to Indian pacemen.

“I have not modified their (Indian bowlers’) actions or anything like that. Nor have I handed them any secret weapons,” Akram wrote in his column in the Times of India on Thursday.

Media reports quoted Miandad, the current Pakistani coach, as saying he hoped Akram had not been giving India tips on how to play reverse-swing ahead of an upcoming historic Test series between the two nations.

India are scheduled to play three Test matches and five one-dayers in March-April on their first full-fledged tour of Pakistan in nearly 15 years.

“Come to think of it, I haven’t even discussed reverse-swing with them (Indian players), let alone taught them how to bat against reverse-swing,” said Akram, who is in Australia as a TV commentator.

India’s Irfan Pathan, Ashish Nehra and Zaheer Khan – all left-arm pacemen like their idol – sought Akram’s help on their ongoing tour of Australia to improve their performance.

“In the past few days, some heat and dust has been raised by Javed Miandad about my spending time with the young Indian bowlers,” said the “Sultan of Swing” who bagged 414 wickets in Tests and a record 502 in one-dayers.

"I don’t see anything wrong in talking with Irfan who is just 18 years old and approached me with a request to spend time with him at the nets. Nobody said a word when (Australian paceman) Nathan Bracken sought me out similarly.

"I’ve only shared my training methods and talked about the psychology of bowling with the Indian youngsters.

"Back in 1996 when India was preparing for the Lord’s Test (in England), a certain Miandad spent much time with the Indian captain, his deputy and other batsmen.

“Of course Viv Richards was there as well as they sought to help the Indians tackle the seam and swing movement. I guess it was okay then for ‘secrets’ to be shared.”

Miandad meanwhile clarified that he was never against his former team-mate giving tips to Indian pacemen.

“Even I as a former player have helped youngsters from other countries,” Miandad told the paper.

“I was never against Akram giving any tips, but the way it came out in the media it seemed as if I was stopping him.”

Miandad however warned Indian batsmen they would not find it easy against the Pakistani attack despite their impressive performance in Australia.

“It won’t be easy to continue the same form in Pakistan,” said Miandad.

India drew a tough four-Test series 1-1 in Australia, with batsmen Rahul Dravid, Venkatsai Laxman, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar all dominating the hosts’ attack.

“In cricket, fortunes are balanced on just one ball. That’s what it takes to dismiss a batsman,” said Miandad.

“As of now India must be riding a wave, but don’t forget India struggled to beat New Zealand at home before this tour.”

good its cleared ;)

Man these are comments by a bunch of ordinary people. They can be ignored. But how about professional people like miandad he said pakistan has irfan patans in every galli of pakistan they dodnt even have a look at them.

I wish i could see his face when some one reminding his own comments

I'm so glad that Wasim helped this promising youngster who CHOSE to work hard unlike our bowlers. It is good in a way to make PCB realize that Pakistan should be the country utlizing Wasim's wisdom. It is an indirect slap to PCB and I'm happy about it.

I like this Irfan dude. He really impressed me with his eagerness to learn. In fact Our bowlers should approach him and learn a thing or two from this young guy.

These Irfan-Wasim controversies refuse to die down. Now Ian Chappell is being unreasonable -

"The bowlers really got the bit between their teeth and while it was no surprise to see Anil Kumble circle like a shark with blood in the water it was a joy to watch the performance of Irfan Pathan. There was never any doubt about the young man's skill but he is learning every day about the thought required to take wickets at Test match level. His dismissal of Abdul Razzaq with a first ball bouncer on the fourth day was a clever ploy and in the second innings without the assistance of the injured Zaheer Khan he toiled long and sensibly to maintain the pressure from his end. The similarities between Pathan and former Pakistan great Wasim Akram are eerie."

And now, none less than pak cricket's god, the king khan, the very same person who remarked that pathan lacked in pace to be effective in pak says pathan's the reason for the panicky clean shave the multan wicket got at the last minute.

The kid took six wickets, and Imran noticed. "[Pakistan] were psyched by the bowling of Irfan Pathan in the one-dayers and they thought that if they played on a grassy wicket, their batsmen would not be able to handle the talented left-arm bowler. As a result, they got the grass shaved off on the eve of the first Test. Pace is this Pakistan team's greatest strength, and once they denied the fast men a helpful wicket, Multan was a lost cause." pathan's shut up many a loosemouth with his brilliant performance.

AND now his modesty…I hope succes doesnt get to his head. He looks modest ..but then we all know stiory of Azharuddin. How modest and shy he was in the begining.

I’m keeping my feet very much on ground: Pathan**

PTI FRIDAY, APRIL 02, 2004 12:29:36 PM ]

MULTAN : In the land of the Pathans, it is an Indian Pathan who has impressed one and all with his exploits on the cricket field and his humility.

In just three weeks in Pakistan , young Irfan Pathan has become a household name and even among the cricket stars, he is a star in his own rights.

Pakistani greats such as Imran Khan, Wasim Akram and former Australian captain Ian Chappell are gushing the superb performance of the left-arm seamer in one-day internationals and the Multan Test match where he made an impressive contribution to India 's win.

Many of those who saw Pathan are reminded of young Akram and predict that he has the potential to become a top fast bowler. He is much in demand by autograph hunters and journalists but all this has not gone to the head of the 19-year-old Baroda speedster.

“I will never be carried away with the attention I am getting. I am keeping my feet very much on the ground and Insha Allah I will keep doing it,” he says.

It has been a phenomenal rise for the youngster ever since making his Testdebut against Australia in the second Test at Adelaide late in 2003, having improved by leaps and bounds after every match.
**
Pathan believes that there is no shortcut to success and whatever he has achieved so far has been because of his hard work. “Yeh sab Allah ki meherbani hai,” he says.
**
The big-hearted Pathan picked up a career-best haul of 4 wickets for 100 runs in the first innings and bowled an outstanding spell in the second innings to claim two wickets to play his part in India 's historic Test win on Pakistani soil.

The strapping paceman who comes from a religious background says his faith in the Almighty helps him do better in the field.
**
“Offering Namaz not only makes a person humble but it also helps me in concentrating better. That is one way I keep improving my performance,” he says. **
:k:
Pathan took the vital wickets of Taufeeq Umar, Yasir Hameed, Abdul Razzaq and Saqlain Mushtaq, all dangerous batsmen in their own rights and then had Moin Khan leg before in the second innings before claiming the last wicket of Yousuf Younana to bring about India 's moment of glory in this dusty city steeped in history.

“With every match, I am getting mentally stronger. I am gaining a lot of confidence which is very important for a fast bowler. But I still have to improve a lot,” he says modestly.

FB, Azhar was allright till he met Bijli. Damn Sindhis will corrupt anyone
