Model for India pak friendship

A Good Read…

**Pathan learnt it from Akram **

BRISBANE: Fast bowler Irfan Pathan played a stellar role in Sunday’s critical victory over Australia. But within twelve hours after the energy-sapping performance, he was back in the nets fine-tuning his bowling.

He looked enthusiastic and full of energy as he walked into the Gabba sharp at noon; he also looked very cheerful and he had every reason to feel that way: his idol, Wasim Akram, was by his side to give him tips.
*
Times News Network learnt that Irfan tagged along with Akram, who was going there for a television shoot, as soon as he got to know about his schedule.

The Pakistani sultan of swing and cut has been the unofficial bowling coach since John Wright invited him almost two months ago. Australia’s Bruce Reid is, of course, the official bowling coach.

  •

Akram has had a few stints with the players earlier too. He looked as earnest as Irfan himself. “He is a good bloke, with lot of potential,” he had said during India’s opening game in the VB Series at Melbourne. “He runs in fast and that’s the first sign of a good fast bowler."
Irfan stormed into the touring party by taking nine for 16 against Bangladesh during the Asian Under-19 championship. He played his first game at Adelaide as India’s bowling attack came apart with injuries.

He impressed the connoisseurs with his pace, his aggression and his willingness to learn. He picked up three wickets, including that of Hayden and Gilchrist, on Sunday to give a mean and young look to the Indian team.
**
It was fascinating to see Akram and Irfan in action: the master and his pupil. Both have similar frames: same height, same body structure and same good looks. If anything, Akram looks like the completed version.
**
Akram showed him how to hold the ball, how to use his fingers for those special deliveries and how to complete his follow-through. If Irfan had any doubts, he would promptly show him exactly what he meant and how to do it.

The king of left-handed bowlers said that he hadn’t felt a ball in six months, since July; ** but as he demonstrated his art, it looked like he had bowled just six hours earlier.
**
He might just be a tad heavier now, but his run-up was as smooth as ever; the new red ball too looked as dangerous and beautiful as it has always done in his hand. It swung away aesthetically, both ways, as he released it ever so slowly.

Irfan could only gasp in astonishment.
For more than an hour, the two went through imaginary situations of bowling to right-handers, to left-handers, to opening batsmen to tail-enders.

Akram spent considerable time explaining how to use his fingers for the slower delivery: “the key is to deceive the batsman. He should not see any difference in your arm swing,” he kept saying.

Irfan bowled one, and another and by the fourth, the ball was pitching perfectly outside the off-stump, close to the imaginary batsman. He’s obviously a quick learner.

As the two worked and played, the television crew too completed its job. Sadly, ESPN’s reporter Gautam Bhimani, who came all padded up and well-equipped, couldn’t get out off a rising Wasim delivery and got hit on his ribs.

:rotfl:

The sultan clearly hasn’t forgotten his art.

I hope the master doesn't give too many tips to pathan ahead of the Indian tour of Pak.

c there is my point proven, pak as always have not made use of home grown talent, u have one of the gr8test bowlers in the game and who uses his services, that’s rite the arch-rivals.

I think master may do that.He is just trying to make an statement to PCB."If PCB doesnt think I am worth it ,I will go and help anyone who shows respect and asks for it."
And Irfan sure admires him and has been vocal about it.Its good for cricket also.

I agree it is good for cricket and also surely for the young Pathan, but I just wnat him to keep those tips till after the tour.

Maybe he is a double agent planted by PCB to spy on the Indian teams tactics. :D

Nah...Ganguly is too smart for this. Heard..Even Reid isnt part of secret planning meetings.

WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT???

He IS the greatest of all time. No Hadlee, Lilly, Imran, Kapil or Walsh comes near to him. He is the best bowler this universe has ever seen. Period.

It could be Ganguly who is the 007. Seedhe ungli se ghee nahin nikla to terhi se nikal raha hai dada.

Not only is he utilising Wasim's talent he might be asking besht tactics to beat Pakistan.:)

Your Admiration of Gangulyis so bengali like. You smell like Macher jhol.

aah yes. the unhealthy obssession continues.

Wasim Akram's record stands as follows:

900+ int't wickets, approx. 5 hattricks, a double century in test matches, man of the match in the final of a world cup, only bowler with five hundred ODI wickets the second best being a 100 wickets behind, could bowl two consecutive overs without bowling the same delivery twice. all in all, undoubtedly the greatest fast bowler of all time bar none.

first it was Agarkar who was going to be Akram. then, Zaheer until the Aussies did the job on him. then Nehra was the Akram designate, btw Mr. Akram Nehra has the world's ugliest runup and bowling action. and now we come to the new lover boy, Pathan who is Akram just because he helped India win one measly ODI against the Aussies. enough said.

some of these Indian writers are absolutely shameless. next time, Farhat or Hameed score a century I will write an article calling them the next Ganguy and Tendular respectively and see how the Bharatis like that.

bhai apni auqaat main raho, first say that Pathan will the next Kuruvilla, then move to Parsad, then Prabhakar... then Srinath etc etc. You get the idea right. now, run along and think about it.

btw, for a sec I thought the article read that Irfan was the completed version. When the tears of laughter subsided, I finally read Akram. You Bharatis are funny.

Sambi,

No where ..anyone here said that Irfan is going to be next Akram(there is clear reference as Master and Pupil). You dont need to put figures to proof that Akram is great. We all know it and Indians respect them as much as Pakistani do.Indians are not narrow minded.

Your hate is pretty obvious from your reply.Instead of complementing Irfan and Media for the respect they show for Great bowler you are trying spread your hatred here.

Give credit where it is due. What is wrong ,If Irfan is trying to learn from Wasim. If Wasim doesnt have problem why you. If at all you should have problem then you should be blaming PCB or Your idiotic youngesters who doesnt turn for advice to greatest ever bowler in their own country.

I wonder if you really read the whole article or just saw the headline and my name and replied.

You think we're so juvenile we would mind?? Or so arrogant that we would call you shameless?? Calm down!

Yep..I had the same kinda laugh when Some Pakis here said that Afridi was next Richard.

:k:

I saw Pathan bowl the other night at Gabba. I also remember Akram's first outing against the Kiwis. Pathan is not even the paat of Akram. Case closed.

Karina, why get so pissy wissy? all I'm saying is take it easy a lil bit. call Pathan say Nehra's pupil or something or maybe Nathan Bracken (you know he's pretty damn good). why would you go straight for the greatest fast bowler to play the game?

The only thing I see common between Pathan and Akram is that they're left-handed. If there's more to it, please help me help myself.

shukran.

Funguy,
No body is saying that he is Akram or even close. Article just talks about how Irfan admires him and how Wasim is helping him.Whats wrong ?? This is a salue to Akram's greatnes. There are lots of players who grewup admiring Richard,Bradman or Sobers.
Akram himself grewup admiring Imran and learnt a lot from him.

f&b, I know. I just wanted to see your reply. :D
