Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
the only difference between S710a and the S700i are EDGE support and triple band support. (850/1800/1900 mhz) And it has better digital zoom (digital zoom is never better :D )
Go for the S700/S710a because of the better screen. Its more fun plus it looks way better. The 6230i looks more like your average phone
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
Don't buy an S710a unless you have checked it out in a shop. Hold it in your hands and open it to figure out if it feels comfortable. It has very nice features, an amazing screen and a great cam option... but the design is fairly counter-intuitive and is heavy and massive. The design is counter-intuitive, because when you are looking at the screen, its fine, but if you swivel it to get to the keyboard, the screen is now upside down! You can, ofcourse, swivle the keyboard instead of the screen, but it needs some getting used to. Maybe if Sony can make it a slider instead of swivel, it will be a much better option.
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
Hey Faisal, how's the Cingular service as compared to Verizon? I have T-Mobile currently but am thinking of switching. The only thing is that TMobile lets you roam internationally.
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
I guess it depends on where you live and work, ofcourse. My work is in downtown, so both Cingular and Verizon offer great coverage. My home is up in the hills, so both have similar problems, but Cingular is much better, and there are fewer call drops. Before switching to Cingular, I had checked the coverage map of T-Mobile, and it basically suggested fairly poor reception at my home, which is understandable as T-Mobile is a recent player in this market. Cingular has definitely improved by leaps and bounds in reception after their merger with AT&T.
The other thing is Verizon, for some reason, deliberately switches off available functionalities in the phone sets. They only have 2 phones with BT, and even there the BT can only be used for headset, and the functionality to move info from one phone to another is switched off. Atleast this was true a few weeks ago, when I was researching on various Verizon discussion forums and talked to their reps.
Plus Cingular being on GSM offers many more communication options that Verizon just can't. Like now, folks in Pak can send SMS directly. Plus, GSM is so much more handy if you ever travel out of US.
Lastly, the smartphone I ultimately ended up wanting was not available with T-Mobile anyway. They are still offering only the Treo 600, whereas I got the 650. Sprint was the only other option, but the GSM factor swung the vote for Cingular.
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
hows the SE k300? my kid bro's been contemplating over it and is in a confusion between the SE K700 and a but cheaper one K300.
any comments on this one? how is it?
would it be a better choice than the Nokia 6610i?
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
dp - are you saying that S710a and the S700i both offer EDGE support?? then how does it answer my question? (what’s the difference btw the two).
also as far as i know S700i is also tri band so how is it different from S710a??? And WHY is digital zoom never better??? you’ve confused me even more ![]()
Faisal - how you’ve described S710a sounds exactly like how I felt holding the S700i. So does that mean there is no difference btw the two as far as design is concerned? if yes then how is it different from S700i??? ![]()

I think im gonna get S700i unless i dont mess up and change my mind in the shop at the last moment.
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
ok. well that was the DIFFERENCE.
S700i
-dual band
-no edge support
-limited digital zoom
S710a
-triple band
Edge support
8 times digital zoom
And about digital zoom. The difference between digital zoom and optical zoom is that one is hardware and one is software zoom.
Optical:
A moving lens in the phone, no loss in quality.
Digital:
Software zooms in which results in loss of quality.
soooo If you plan to keep the phone in a bag or purse go for the S700 or s710 :)
If not I would still advice u to go for that one. I dont think you will regret it :D
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
oh so S700i is dual band? amazing!
oh yeah, right now i have 8310 but always keep it in bag as that feels too big. but for S700i, i can sacrifice my desire to have tiny phones ![]()
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
hey dp dp dp
look, i knew that S700i wasnt dual band. it is tri band. check out this link below:
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
UPDATES!!!
I PURCHASED S700i yesterday. oh but there are only 2 games. still getting to know it. i took pictures of my new blood red handbag and new blood red bedsheet with strawberry print ![]()
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
drawback:
it has to be kept opened on the passenger seat while driving in case you need to make an emergency call cz you cant operate it one handedly when it is closed. atleast one hand has to be there on the steering wheel. i expereinced this today ![]()
Re: Mobile phone reviews please!
two flaws in the d500 well 1.5.
1) you cant use voice commands over bluetooth. E.g. when driving cant dial someone number withought touching the phone.
2) No expandable memory. Not the biggest problem as it has a large internal mem but all phones in the same cartegory like 6230 allows you to expand memeory.
Not a major some like me wont give twho hoops but doesnt have EDGE for those on a 2.5g GSM network i.e. orange.
if anyone is looking for a smartphone forget all the **** posted above and get a proper smartphone. the imate sp3. In UK avialbe only on orange called the c500. Avialable in USA under a different name. Very small, thin, good quality, big battery, runs wdows mobile (pocket pc) and a big screen. It;s amasing what they got into a small package. has a 200Mhz processor so not slow either.
