mixing culture with religion

yes or no?

no

Big no no. The problem is, in many cases cultural values are already being passed off as religious values and this is rotting away Muslim societies from the inside.

I guess you guys are right...I always thought the concept of Islamic culture is kind of stupid. Those moorish tiles at the Alcazar and the miniatures of Herat are not islamic but more spanish and Persian.

Good to know...

I dont even like the whole "uncle" "auntie" thing in our culture. I like adressing our muslim people as SISTER and BROTHER.

And how paki culture, ur not a doctor or makin big money your trash....just jokin...actually im not

You miss the point. Culture itself is not bad, but when negative cultural values are allowed to pollute religion it becomes a problem.

The way in which Jordan's religious scholars refused to condemn honour killing (contrasted with scholars elsewhere) is an example where cultural values (killing women for doing nothing wrong) is now being passed off as uncriticisable religious values)

Culture is culture..good or bad..it is culture. Just like you cannot take good parts of a religion and discard the bad parts you cannot do the same with culture either. Culture has been around longer than religion in most parts of the world.

Cultures can change over time, in a direction shaped by society. Over the past 120 years, we've seen a cultural shift in the west, for example, from deriding the idea of a woman working through to complete acceptance of it.

Similarly, 70 years ago Japan had very strongly militant culture, which got changed with a very big stick.

Cultures can go through radical changes in comparitively short periods of time.

you should use religion to correct bad things in your culture.

TO me, lots of the things in the PK culture conflict with islam, which is wrong.

I know there are many religions, which do need correction, in my view... you are right. I missed it.

Lots of things in Arab culture conflict with Islam, lots of things in Pakistani culture conflict with Islam, ditto for Bengali, African, Indonesian, and Malaysian culture.... it's sad that after 1400 years Muslim societies still behave in unislamic ways.

So does on ebite their tongues or change the paradigm in places where relgiion takes a back seat to the culture. Is it a religion obligation to impose the religious will over culture in such places, as per islam? If so, then what are they ways. If not then, what's the big whup?

The big whup is that if you want to follow Islam and a cultural thing is contradictory to Islam then you either mould it according to Islam or give it up.

What if it directly contradicts the laws and rules of the place where you live. Would you leave?

You mean a culture contradicts the laws and rules? Yeah sure, give it up.

If religion contradicts with rules and regs of your country of choice. would you leave?

...Look at Christians; have you ever seen a Sunday service conducted in Hebrew? The language of Christ. Religion is nothing but imperialism. Send the bloody thing back to where it came from.

Read my posts above :p

Christianity wouldn't be best of examples. Why do Jews stick to Hebrew? Do they say their prayers in English?
