Re: Miswaak and its Benefits
^ lol.
might as well sit in a lotus position, why pray? or any other yoga position. Try it, they'll give you the same physical activity you get during namaaz.
but no, we pray namaaz because thats the optimal way of getting spiritual as well as physical benefit.
You can exercise and get physical benefit, praying will get you the spiritual benefit too. Thats explained and shown byt he Prophet pbuh, you can only reason so much and accept HIS reason only.
Miswaak similarily has the same benefit, of cleaning and spiritual. Tootbrush you can use ofcourse, but it'll only get your cleaning done. And you might get sawaab for being clean, just like you would get sawab for say praying at home. If you pray at a masjid with congregation, you get more sawaab. If you clean with miswaak you'll get more sawab.
Hope you get the idea.
And Allah swt doesnt' do magic, its all real, and its reality.
Re: Miswaak and its Benefits
Again, let me bring in rationalism and science to explain why bending up and down enhances spirituality.
- Its a repetetive movement - the entire namaz consists of repetitons. This helps you get into the moment and get centered. Similar methods are used in yoga, for example.
2. Its an excercise. You may laugh at me, but when desi aunties aren't getting any excercise, this bending up and down keeps their knees working well. It gets the lymphatics moving. I always feel more energized after namaz. Couple the actions with the state of clearing your mind and just focusing on God...the meditation has tremendous spiritual benefits. It gets you connected with God.
These things are not mystical and unexplainable all the time. Quite often, a perfectly good explanation is available.
God operates on science. He made science. He uses science. For you to reject this, is a sin, IMHO, because then you're insulting the intelligence of God.
Science is his magic. At least one of his many forms of magic.
Sis, I believe God's knowledge is above science........if God uses science for everything then so can we.

I quoted all the ahadith from Bukhari for you and you ducked and never replied. Can you kindly show me in those ahadith where the spiritual benefits are centered upon siwak and not cleaning.

Perhaps the rule is different for women since they are encouraged to not pray at the masjid with congregation. They either don't need the extra sawaab, don't deserve the extra sawaab or get it from somewhere else. Maybe the same with miswaak.
Re: Miswaak and its Benefits
^ they get it more at home even on top of that masjid is recommended.
Re: Miswaak and its Benefits
lol seminole can you quit the endless bickering?
Re: Miswaak and its Benefits
No one is saying that the Prophet never used miswak, nor recommended it. Why can't you guys accept that the principle of the matter is still being followed by a toothpaste and toothbrush. The toothbrush is just an advanced miswaak, that's all. You really think the Prophet would have discouraged you to use toothpaste and would have told you to use a miswaak.
You guys think he asked his followers to use a miswaak because their is something magical about the wood or something. In reality, he was just telling people to keep their mouths clean.
You can do that with a toothpaste and toothbrush. Please stop complicating things.
Oh God why don't we reason and understand the background of issues, recommendations and context. PG you are a rare breed who can see the light. As we are still fighting over beards, miswaak, length of pants over foot-ankle, circumcision, and what not.
Thumbs-up to your view (my kind of thinking)

Sis, I believe God's knowledge is above science........if God uses science for everything then so can we.
PC was absoultely right but may not have put the way she wanted to.
"I believe God's knowledge is above science .. " Your believe is incorrect. It is neither above nor below science. It is Non-relative and Absolute. But part of HIS knowledge that we are able to understand is what we call Science. The rules are devised by HIM. We understand part of it.
The whole planetary systems, all forms of life everywhere is going through the metamorphosis as per his rules (Science). God himslef has mentioned the rules of Science as "Sunnat-Ullah" in Quran, i.e., the way of wroking of Allah. The "Sunnat-Ullah" is never arbitrary. There is always a reason before an action, and a reaction after an action.
Cheers.
