  • Ibn Abbas (R) narrates the following Hadith: “The Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: ‘I was commanded so much to use the Miswaak that I thought Wahi of the Quraan (Revelation) would be revealed, regarding it (i.e. its use)’.” (ABU YA’LAA)

    Book Reference :
  • Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) laid great stress on the use of the Miswaak (a tree-twig used for cleansing the teeth). One of the Sunnats of Wudhu is to use a Miswaak. Wherever a Miswaak is available and is not used, the full beauty and complete Sawaab of the Wudhu is not realised. There are numerous benefits and advantages in using a Miswaak.
  • Abu Ayyub (R) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: ‘Four things are amongst the practices of the Ambiyaa —circumcision, application of perfume, Miswaak and marriage’. (AHMAD AND TIRMIZI)
  • Allamah Ibn Ismail says: “It surprises me how people could forgo such a great Sunnah, the significance of which many Ahadith of our Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) explain. Remember that it is a great loss to neglect the Miswaak.”
  • Hadhrat Ali (R), the fourth Khalif of Islam said: “Make the Miswaak (i.e. its use) incumbent upon you, and be constant in this practice because Allah’s Pleasure is in it and it increases the Reward of Salat from ninety-nine times to four hundred times.”

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

Obviously you don't do enough Miswaak, read the red quote above.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

huh, ok?

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

Toothbrush and toothpaste do the same thing. Why can't we just use those?

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

because using Miswaak is Sunnah of the prophet:saw: and because Rasoolulah:saw: told us about the good rewards we get using miswaak. tooth brush does the same as far as cleaning but it is considered makrooh during fast whereas, miswaak gives more rewards… but if you think, that toothbrush is same thing then, may Allah:swt: give you reward for using toothbrush similar to that of miswaak.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

They cure headaches and diseases?

This is the life perscribed by Allah swt, the one that created all of mankind. This is the BEST way of life. The IDEAL way to live.

No one condemns toothbrush, Tvs, Movies, Cd Players etc...

Its how you utilize the things around you, as prescribed by Allah swt to gain benefit in this world and in the hereafter that matter.

Humans are tiny lil creatures with no power at all, we cannot come up with our own deen. This is why messengers were sent, Prophets pbut came, to teach and guide us how to establish deen.

Miswaak is part of that deen, thats why its different from a toothpaste and toothbrush.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

What the is original source for this? Hadith or scientific?

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

JazakAllah for the post.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

Iam surprised, and who consider it makrooh? U mean to say it is not allowed to be clean in Ramadan or while fasting? provided every knows that Toothpaste is something not to eaten niether it helps as a food.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

But toothpaste does have a flavour unlike miswaak, No?

Who consider it makrooh? Scholars

You can clean your teeth during fast with miswaak without any worry.

But if you think toothpaste won't give you any good taste then you can use it as it is makrooh and not haram.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

Miswaak also have tastes? isn't it?.

As per scholars? which scholars?

can u specifically name them and paste here saying that use of toothpaste ( unless and otherwise toothpaste contains haram components) is forbidden or makrooh!!!

As far as i know, fast can not be broken or get "makrooh" by petty things such as toothpaste, if the intentions are not so!!!

Deen is simple, let it be simple

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

^You can believe whatever you want to believe.

I myself don't use toothpaste during fast bcoz I like the taste of toothpaste.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

^^^ these kind of behaviour and statement are condemend by our Prophet (PBUH) as well, his teaching includes that do not accept anything untill and unless u know the source of such information is reliable... but our Indo-Hindu culture have let this instruction in the books only, we say and believe what we heard from anywhere!!!

and if anyone question it we say it.. u can believe what ever u want to believe...

Iqbal says,

MuslmaaN hay azaad, Islam hay mehboos

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

^Have you provided any reference for your statement of toothpaste being completely allowed during fast from a scholar?

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

Also hannibal, please provide reference from scholars that you got out of the right side of the bed and that you are clicking your mouse with the proper hand.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

:salam:

All I can say is following Sunnah is different from understanding Sunnah. Sorry to say but its conversations as the ones occuring in this thread that highlight the immaculate and high level stupidity that muslims are embroiled in. Nothing against Sunnah (how can I possibly be against it if I am a muslim), however following a sunnah literally isn’t always the most intelligent thing to do. Sometimes you need to understand whats behind the action in a sunnah. The Prophet SAW emphasis in this sunnah is not so we start using a twig to clean our teeth but its about personal hygiene and cleanliness. The Prophet SAW used what was best available in his time and we should preserve the sunnah that cleanliness and hygiene are of utmost importance in a muslims life and use the best choice from what is available in our time.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

:salam: Behna

I like the taste of water should I stop doing wudu when fasting?

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

I was accepting something intelligent from u!!!

but see what i was accepting!!!

Nazafa ( cleaness) is 50% of Iman ( faith), toothpaste is used to clean, how come a thing which is used for cleaning purposes can makrooh a Pak ibadat like Fasting.

ask for the ref. later, first try to prove me wrong by logic, like i did and u left with no argument... other than asking questions in reply of questions

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

Wsalam USResident,

The method of Prayer shown was the way we pray now. Why so? Why not change that to our time too?

The method of Ihraam that we wear during hajj was from that time, why not just wear pant shirt now?

The method of making wudhu is different, why not we just jump in a lake and technically we covered every part we did like we do in wudhu?

The method to say Salam was used back then, wehy not jsut say "whatsup" instead of Salaam today?

Why did the Prophet pbuh emphasis miswaak so much? Who has the guts to forget that in today's world?

p.s.

**Water
**A clear, colorless, odorless, and tasteless liquid, H2O, essential for most plant and animal life and the most widely used of all solvents.

Re: Miswaak and its Benefits

Exactly!!!

Our Prophet (PBUH) use to ride camel, so should we be doing that as well, He ( PBUH) use to go to war armed with swords and other weapons of that time, should we be doing that!!!

Imagine if we do that…

The Policy statement in this case is one have to keep himself clean, if i dont brush twice a day, i dont feel like talking to anyone, how can i talk to my Allah while having bad-breath.
