I highly doubt they are actually practicing muslims anyway, they know what they r doing is wrong, freedom is fine, but majority of muslims r against it because it makes pious women look oppressed, and tarnishes the image of islam.

Cave man, stone age, troglodyte thinking is the truth and it has been all controlled by men and written by men and people are too brainwashed due to lack of educational pursuits but the popllace is very slowly being educated to realize that the male bastion of power mongers and warlords has dominated and controlled their lives long enough in the guise of religious putrification and condemnation since the invention of the three mesopotamian dogmas. Remember that historically religion kept the poor and disheartened in control and suppressed by the power holders prior to civil law introduced. Think about it and you will realize it was and is so , if you dare think and read religious history .
Bereft of intellectual value is plenty in the middle east today, ever wonder which god will win or are they the same? Because I am surely confused by all the blood shed and the religous leaders calling for more blood and death with the passionate zeal of a starving Dracula. Downright vampirical!!!!! I wonder what the Buddists contemplate when they are in their temples and witness what "Abraham's" descendants of spirituality are doing to each other today. The atheist is surely laughing at the folly of the religious man and his pious perversity for humanly love and tolerance. think about this!!!!

Since Iranian independance only, **Civilzed America **has had armed conflicts and wars with Koria, Vietnam, Cuba, Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Except Iran Iraq war, no **Un-Civilzed Iranian **planes have flown over any country with **conventional weapons. whereas
The Civilzed American **planes with **Nuclear weapons **have had been flying over many countries during and after Cold War.
**Un-Civilzed Non-Nuclear Iran **has never bombed any country even with **conventional weapons. whereas
Civilzed Nuclear America **is the only Nuclear state in the world who dropped **nuclear weapons **twice on a non-nuclear state i.e., Japan.
No **Un-Civilzed Iranian **sub-marines are fathoming in any ocean of the world. whereas
**Civilzed American **Nuclear sub-marines are roaming freely in many oceans of the world.
No **Un-Civilzed Iranian **soldiers are on active duty in other country of the world. whereas
**Civilzed American **Soldiers are on active duty in dozens of countries in the world.
**Civilzed Iran **is not holding back any country's money woth Billions of dollars in frozen accounts in her Banks. whereas
**Civilzed America **is holding back Billions of dollar of Iran in Frozen Bank accounts.
The **Un-Civilzed Iranian Revolution **by the **Un-Civilzed Ayatullahs **was complete in a couple of years with several thousand casualties. whereas
The **Civilzed American Civil Wars **fought by **Civilized American Generals lasted for almost a decade with over a million casualties.
During Iranian Revolution, almost all the Civilzed American hostages **were freed and sent back to **Civilized America **by the **Un-Civilzed Iran. **whereas
The Geneva Convention is not being adhered to by **Civilzed Americans **in relation to the prisoners of Guantonamo Bay Prison.
**Un-Civilzed Iranian people **are continously voicing their opinion against the attrocities of Israel and double standards of West. whereas

well written however I could point out Iran-Contra, Ayatollah , maniacal Iranian president of today, civilized nuclear american NEVER dropped the bomb on Japan, they dropped the atom bomb and they asked for it. Read what Japan did to Koreans and Chinese.
And I definitely agree america has been much agregious in some of it's foreign policy however , when hell and human anal-excrement happens in the world to countries whom do they call for aide? USA, USA, USA , USA...... to AD NAUSEUM.

Urbanization (not necessarily education) is affecting change, but the power differential that is being addressed is primarily across social strata, and not the mostly fictitious inter-familial political conflicts. Need, my dear, is driving people to work more...although this is contrary to human nature....which is to sit around and navel gaze.
The lunacy here is pretending as if cultures you deem 'backward' were in some pristine whereby the social setup somehow reflected what we have in modern Western society. So, the myth goes, women were once free but then came the evil men and subjugated them.
The fact is, the patriarchal order is as much maintained and enforced by women as men.
The claim that religion kept the poor in check does not bear relevance to the Tribal Abrahamic faiths, where there were no anonymous 'poor' to keep in check. Such cultures already inherited a power structure based on familial ties. This setup was by far and wide respected and upheld by the will of 'ordinary' people, and not imposed. As such the need for Orwellian control (a rather modern concept...tsk-tsk-tsk...conflating and projecting modern concepts on historical societies is rather lame my dear) was simply not there.
Methinks one really needs to stop thinking in terms of wild eyed conspiracy theories and look at the obvious for once...
As for the middle east, I hope you realize that the side that is using disproportionate force echoes the same concern vis-a-vis Muslim Women (albeit entirely feigned of course)...that you've inherited their racist discourse only exposes you for the fool you are.

Well, the same women that parade around in thongs and short skirts in the west, do so to appeal to the male population. Mens taste dictate what these women wear. Underneath all the hype, even the West is a male oriented society in one sense or the other. Women prance around to the beat of male drums.
I think Muslims should be modern, but we dont need the West to define what is or isnt modern. Muslims have to have their own revolution. WE are NOT the West.
Muslims are stil conservative. Change must come, and it will come, but only at its own pace. It must be a gradual process which involves balancing Muslim tradition and modernist and reformist thinking.
What these women are doing is trying to put a western face to Islam. It betrays the belief that some how the west is better or more progressive. I dont think thats the case. There are many women in the Muslim world who are stong role models fro other muslim women, and yet they do not go out on the limb to be percieved as modern or progressive in the western sense.
