Arent their any contests for women in the Muslim world which promote Islamic values (whatever those may be)... Must a "modern" women be synonomous with a Westernized one? Why does a Muslim girl have to wear a bathething suite to portray herself and perhaps her country as modern?
Why do we allow the West to define modernity and progressive thinking?

The applicant is not/has not been married, and has never had a marriage annulled or never given birth to a child;

Is not now pregnant nor a parent; If any of these conditions change, the applicant is to notify the National Director immediately

I fully agree with you sis. But in my humble opinion, the problem arises when we, the Muslims are told, what is MODERNIZATION?. I think, the Muslims already know what is modernization. There is no harm whatsoever in being modern. Almost all the Muslim Countries (in their own capacity) are adopting new and modern ways for their development. Problem arises when people start confusing MODERNIZATION with WESTERNIZATION. Is'nt it so ironic, that when a Muslim country talks of MODERN NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY even for peaceful purposes, a big storm is made in a very small tea-cup. On the contrary, events like this are connected, propagated and encouraged in the name of MODERNIZATION.

i don't hate muslim at all as I am muslim. I just can't stand how many in my religion still live in the stone age of 1400 years ago. No wonder the west views us as backwards. There is nothing wrong in free will and Allah blessed us with free will. I just don't buy into sunnahs and hadiths as they were written during times where men were troglodytes and chauvinisitic. And mayhaps because I view much of how Islam controls people its in reality all about controlling women. Doesn't take a genious to see how much Islam and muslims are suffering today from themselves yet many seem to easily blame it on the 'west'. I am appalled at the brainwashing and the obvious blind faith of people. And how many don't even take the time to ask questions and I think its because they have been trained not to ask but thumped into simply believing. It's has nothing to do with hating muslim as you would like to easily believe and as many do find it easy to believe rather than question the idiocracy that is within the faith. Look no further than the murderous muslims killing each other. The world is watching us behave like christians did in medieval times. What makes it especially horrific is we are in the 21st century where its proven the world is round and the earth circles the sun and many Islamic countries have theocratic regimes which does nothing more then suppress women while giving men free reign to go on rampages . THere is so much pious condemnation and parochial prosecution it is absolutely disgusting to read and see.

Just see the social problems and the retardation of society in Islamic countries , the evidence of the backward mentallity is abundant. And when people like clerics controll and head terrorist regimes what more proof do you need?

I know of girls who are forbidden to be on swim teams when I was in high school because of their islamic beliefs. well not theirs but there parents.

My parents however are highly educated and saw nothing wrong with such sport. So if questioning the sensibilities of islamic teaching in all its form is easy for you to comprehend as hatred rather than using the intellect to question it yourself then so be it. Independent thought and free will is always an anathema and threat to the three faiths that were created in mesopotamia. But it is a brave person who does not stop in pursuing the questions and pursues education and removes onself from parochial bondage and control. Enlightenment too me is more important than religious dogam as it is, it has not aided the middle east at all. It seems to ruin, condem, chastise, prosecute all fun and joyous things in life while promising joy in death.

In the west woman has a choice whether to be a beauty pageant contestant or not but never does she have choice in mysogynistic and chauvinistic islamist countries. I am proud of Miss Indonesia. She is not only beautiful but she exercised her free will which is her right as a human being and not because of some dogma dictation which by the by is all written by man.

There is no such thing as a Muslim state in today's society, everything is Western owned, look at any muslim country, and you'll see it runs on *western values. *

Now look bak to the "dark ages" when there was a muslim state.

Do your history homework first, before you make such bold comments.

Study history when islamic states DID exist. You'll see what they stood for, and what God's law does to us on Earth.

Today's world, there is no God's Law being implemented.

Look at the time when it was, the WEST was considered backward, and Muslims were prospering, it was only Western AGenda and greediness that brought the muslims down, secularism.

Don't make such comments when you haven't studied history.

The only thing we should be doing today is reviving that islam , that we all have forgotten, and its easy to revive it.

Just look at the Quran and Sunnah.

Sunnah doesn't speak of being chauvinistic, Maybe you should read it and then u'll understand.

If a nation does not officially want to be represented at such pageants, like Afghanistan or Pakistan, then these American ex-pats have no right imposing their views in the name of a country they abandoned. This is nothing but selfish disrespect.

She should have run for Ms America (as that is where she resides).

Miss Earth was notorious for ex-pats who wouldn’t otherwise have a chance running on behalf of countries who didn’t want a presence at these meat shows anyway.
