Misfits in Desi Society

Re: Misfits in Desi Society

There is a variation of misfits. I believe in religion and am a Muslim but don’t talk about Islam 24 7 like people around me do. More than 10 women around me have taken the hijab, others aspire to take it. It’s a cultural norm to talk about others being fat and thinking that goras are bad and behind every bad thing that goes on. I don’t. In that sense I don’t conform at all.

I want to be just like you when I grow up. :phil:

You said it so much better than I ever could. I wish I had better people skills. I think that is the biggest reason why I feel the way I do.

Yeah yeah yeah… ya’ll are unique.. like everybody else.

Yeah I don’t fit in but then again I don’t think I fit into this era either. Maybe it’s just me.

Re: Misfits in Desi Society

I don’t fit in one culture either. I’m Dutch, because I was born and raised in the Netherlands and I love most aspects of Dutch culture. I’m Pakistani too, because my parents were born in Pakistan and I had a Pakistani upbringing, I like many aspects of our Pakistani culture too.

I couldn’t say I belong 100% to Dutch culture, nor 100% to Pakistani culture. And I don’t mind not completely fitting in. It was terrible while growing up, but as an adult I have no problem with it.

You’ll find your place with time and feel better about it. It’s all part of growing up.
