Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

What was going on in his head to use the power play at the end? He played dot balls, was not taking a single run even the ball traveled near the boundary, shocking energy level arise at the end which made us superstitious… Pakistani fans are blaming him for wasting time at the pitch which lead to defeat. He also dropped catches of Sachin… How would you rate his performance at the semi-final?

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

He just wanted to piss you off....mission accomplished.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Performance was bad, but thats what the pressure of semi-final can do to you.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Yeah exactly at least he was till the end unlike others

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

First of all, I just wish you don't accuse him or any other player of getting bribed as you did in your previous thread. It is very insulting to accuse a good team of doing so. I wish your own interior minister hadn't made a statement along those lines before the match bringing down the overall morale of the team, and then when the people make such comments, it is quite sad.

All players have good days and bad. That is what happens in sports. There isn't anything "suspicious" about it...the players are humans. Errors, bad judgements...all part of a game.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Pakistan has been accused for things/proven guilty so I don't know how to trust 11 of them completely... I hope you understand where my reasoning is coming from. Pakistan knew how many runs they acquired to win the match but why didnt they use power-play in the middle? People were gambling on facebook & billion of dollars were bet on India's victory so it all counts in... I am certainly a disappointed fan because Pakistani players are professionals, who misses a catch of the best player 4 times? Our team practiced so hard but Misbah lacked passion until he was sure that we have lost.... I am glad we made it to semi-finals :).... I have accepted our defeat!

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Exactly :D

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

India was the favorite to win the game, and the bookies were giving higher odds to India. Why would someone bribe Pakistanis to lose when they were already tipped to lose by the bookies ? There was more money to be made by bribing Indian players to lose :)

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Pakistan may makari bohat hai :smack: rishwat per kaam chalta hai sab… I dont care about cricket matches anymore until Pakistani team act like a unit like they did with West Indies :snooty: … Misbah-ul-Haq was so full of himself & wasn’t being cooperative to the other batsman when the other person wanted to run. I hope to see more passion about cricket in them next time, get united as a team, and critiquing will help them learn too:)

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

I think his an Younis Khan innings demanded other person to for big shots and RR kept climbing... Mohd yousaf and Shoaib Malik are best at rotating Strike Among Pakistan batsman I missed em.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Don't blame Misbah or make him a scapegoat. It was a collective batting failure. We just kept losing wickets at regular intervals owing to poor shot selection and lack of mental concentration and application. I do agree though that they should have taken the batting PP earlier

That being said I believe both Younus and Misbah should retire from all limited overs cricket

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

I’d hate to see people blame Misbah for what was a collective failure yesterday. If anything, Misbah was the only one who showed some responsibility yesterday. Yes, he did not play his shots early in his innings, but had he done so and gotten out in the process, I can imagine comments like:
“Misbah should have stayed on the crease for longer. There was no need to play shots when you have Akmal / Afridi / Razzaq with you... how irresponsible of him”.

Perhaps, Misbah is not a good tactician... and he certainly isn’t like his namesake (Inzimam-ul-Haq) who was known for his ability to close the deal and take us to the finishing line. Pakistan has been missing someone with that ability for a long time. Misbah is just like Yousuf and Younis in this aspect... neither of them can finish the game for Pakistan.

I don’t want to play the blame game, but why aren’t we blaming Akmal, Afridi or Razzaq... instead we’re blaming the guy who tried to provide a foundation to those pinch hitters. Once he knew that none of them has clicked, he took up that role himself to the best of his ability.

I agree that he could’ve done things differently... but hindsight is 20/20 and given the pressure he was under, I can’t even imagine what was going through his mind. Misbah may not be a good T20 player, but he is a worthy ODI player. His recent strike rates are around 85 – 90% and he has consistently scored above 40 runs.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Afridi should be getting sleepless nights, I think he should watch boring innings of Misbah, neend apne aap aa jayegi... Misbah played as if he was playing a TEST match....He was didnt bothered to take singles.

Abdul Razzak got out of a beautiful leg cutter, you cant blame him....how can you blame Yuvraj for getting out on a inswinging yorker of Wahab.

Pakistan fielding succumbed to the pressure and was not a par to the bowling. You misfield and drop catches, when you are under pressure.

Same goes for the batting, batsman always play reckless shots to score when they come under pressure. Hafeez, asad shafiq, Afridi, akmal brothers all succumbed to the pressure.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Misbah should've been one of the opening batsmen.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

I salute misbah for yesterdays performance...even though he is the older one yet he looks a lot younger and showed a much better performance than the younger players....he was the saving grace of this match though yes he was playing it more like a test cricket but if his 50 was not there then it would have been a shameful defeat for Pakistan...he deserves to stay in the team...just needs more and more practice.

i just wish shoaib malik was part of this squad.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

im proud of misbah.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Ok Osman Samiuddin makes a very good point about bashing Misbah..

http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc_cricket_worldcup2011/content/current/story/508808.html

“…There are many frustrating ways to lose a game, let alone one as big as this, but few gnaw away at reason and rationality quite like those lost to dropped catches. In this age of the instant vent and search for a “match ka mujrim” (criminal of the match), **Misbah-ul-Haq’s innings is already being pilloried in Pakistan for its poor pacing. The reaction is misplaced and overdone, for the pitch wasn’t given to fluent strokeplay, particularly after the ball softened, **and there had already been some momentum-losing poor shots earlier from the openers…”

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Misbah and Younis HAD big part in yesterday's defeat (other than both dropping Sachin once). Beside collective responsibility or poor shot selection and fielding, it was during the time they were on the crease that required rate jumped from 6.5 to almost 10. ** You can not blame them for not playing BIG shots (as thats not their forte) but 27 dot balls out of 40 faced in ODI is totally unacceptable no matter what the situation is.** And mind you those dot balls were not play and mis of fast bowlers those were the balls on which they played tuk-tuk. Ramiz infact made a VERY good point that Umer Akmal should bat b/w Misbah and younis as they both can not move the scoreboard.

Anyways, even before Misbah or someone else, It was our fielding that was not at par. you can not drop top class batsman 4 times and stsill win.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

Are you Indian?

I disagree with anyone supporting Misbah. The fact that Misbah could not rotate the strike and played dot balls put pressure on everyone else and batsman on the other side got out playing shots to get out of that pressure cooker. Misbah played a test match for the draw, very unlike of him. He is well capable of playing shots and he could have very well taken singles off balls he simply stopped. He played 42 dot balls, if he had taken 30 singles out of those, it was Pakistan's game to win.

Overall, I support my team and proud on them to reach to the semi final. I think Afridi has matured as a captain despite his constant batting failures. He did make few mistakes yesterday such as not taking power play when he was on the wicket and I hope he would learn from these mistakes.

Pakistan need to take some positive measures now. Remove Kamran Akmal altogether from the International Cricket. Misbah and Younus should be restricted to play tests only, if they decide not to retire. Razzaq is over. Perhaps keep him for T20s only. We need a batting coach.

Re: Misbah-Ul-Haq Performance

at 36 he should now be dropped and allow young talent to make the team.
