How do you people stay focusd during namaz.
My mind wanders off to random thoughts.

Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
thinking of me again during namaz? :)
any ways seriousky, it wanders, try to bring it back, in some time the mind wandering would decrease.
my focus is that God is looking at me as I am standing there praying, not that god is not alays looking at us, but when I just think that it keeps my focus.
Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
Think:
Consider it as the last namaz of your life
Allah is looking at you and you are looking at Allah
Learn the meaning of the whole namaz. (Believe me, it is very easy if you know urdu).
Think that according to a hadith Allah replies when you praise Allah during the namaz. (Hadith)
Allah says three times during the namaz when a person's mind is wandering anywhere else. "Is there anything more beautiful than me" (Hadith)

Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
I try to pray as if this is my last salah. I try to think that I am standing in front of Allah. And if I cannot do that, then Allah is watching me pray. I also try to reflect on the meaning of ayahs I am reading in Salah to help me concentrate more

(Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 14/108):
“This waswasah is something that enters the heart not by a person’s choice, and if a person hates it and shuns it, this hatred of it is clear faith.”
Adresteia, EVERYONE goes through what you are going through.... but the best advise, which has already been given above is to learn the prayer one is offering.
For me, I found it easier to initially learnt the meanings of the surahs sentence by sentence (rather then word by word)...
The Prezident of our MSA would always say b4 leading the salat : "pray as if its your last prayer".... this mentality helps a lot as well.
Wassalam
Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
I use the last ten or so surahs of the last paraa when im praying and I know them with tafseer and meaning and I also know the meaning of the whole namaz.
So its not like Im reciting just arabic without knowing what Im doing.
Its a problem ive had for ages, my mind wanders off and then i realize it and start concentrating on the namaz.
I dont know I may be sounding stupid here since none of you has the problem :(
Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
^^ don;t worry i have teh same problem, ure not alone :( :(
Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
I don't mean this as advise but I'll share what works in my case - i just focus on whatever it is I'm praying for. If I'm praying for a kitkat, I just picture a supersize kitkat bar.
Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
^ isnt that a bit selfish?
Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
^ how is it selfish? the kitkat doesn't mind it one bit
addition:
sorry if that sounded facetious.
my point is, most prayer is for something. why not be honest about it.
mind is made to wander. so it needs something to focus on. God knows you mean well, trust me.
Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
I didnt mean it in a bad way however isnt praying supposed to be just for God and not for personal reasons?
Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
^ "supposed" by whom?
why does God need anyone's prayer? it is the wretched human that needs it.
I know a lot of pseudo religiouso preach it that way, but really think about it. doesn't sound really arrogant to think humans have to pray for God?
Pray TO God is different. But that raises the question of 'for what'. The 'for what' is the good stuff (like kitkat)

"There are many people who obey God to gain favours, they act like businessmen trading with God, while there are some who obey Him to keep away from his wrath, they act as slaves, but there are some who obey Him out of gratitude and obligation; These are the noble and gentlemen".

Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
i know what you mean LB, i also find it very difficult to concentrate ![]()
and trust me we are not the only ones
i don’t really know what to do except that when i realize my mind is wandering, i try to whip myself back into shape
and at least during taravih, i follow along with the quran b/c i know where hes reading, etc
inshallah, maybe as we work on stregnthing our imans during ramadan, maybe our concentration will improve as well
