Re: Mind wandering during Namaz
How do you people stay focusd during namaz.
My mind wanders off to random thoughts.
For me also its simple the mind wanders in one of the hadith of the Prophet it says 1/10 part of salah we can concentrate well i am lower than that.
But this is my own technique which i try harder let me take into account 2 consequences
1) When i pray alone
a) I pray only surah which i have ofcourse memorized importantly understood the meaning of it. So after each verse i recite i try to translate it so that makes me concentrates harder.
b) When i am in the qiyam position (i.e. standing) i look down at the place where i will perform my sujood and this continues during ruku (for hanifis you have to look at the thumb of your feet) so i exactly i am trying to concentrate further
c) According to my own analysis the shorter prayers i.e. trying to finish of your prayers faster we can never concentrate and according to a hadith praying fast is the worst of robbery and a sahaba was asked by the Prophet to pray thrice because of this.
To solve this issue try to increase the prayer time i have memorized certain duas performed during ruku, standing after ruku, in the sujood (remember again according to a hadith since sujood is the most humblest position its always preferred to invocate to Allaah and ask for Allaah's forgiveness) and also memorized certain duas before the Tasleem is done.
2) Praying in congregation
a) Since i am trying to learn as much as possible but still i try to follow what the IMam is reciting coz through some words we can try to understand the meaning of the verse/verses recited i agree they are so many i dont understand but tend to concentrate.
Like Ya aahyu alaldeen aammaano (O you believers these verses are pretty interesting as Allaah is addressing the believers and something important is going to be mentioned next) Remember saying of Ibn Masud who says whenever the verse begins with O you who believe he used to listen to it attentively and also advised his students to do the same.
So my concept is trying to relate words and try to conjure a meaning of it.
b) Is the same as above as mentioned in point 1.
c) Now after reading point 1 and section c its again left to the Imam if the imam is swift enough you dont have enough time but if imam is praying with tranquility then ofcourse please try to recite, invocate the duas.
Overall the Prophet mentioned each position in the prayer should resemble tranquility, peace thats one reason you are not ordered to run to the mosques because you are panting and concentration levels are zero.
The most important saying of Prophet again this is amazing and so true
'An individual remembers those things in the prayer which s/he hasnt thought about it before the start of prayer'
I also agree with Fraudia please have the fear Allaah is looking at us and fear Allaah, what happens during the prayer time is we have these thoughts which panics our mind but let us put this thought aside by saying kalli valli let us see what will happen and everything happens its according to the will of Allaah.
Then i would also like to add another saying of the Prophet 'Whenever an individual stands for prayers satan stretches his feet upto the level of our years and does waswasa and we start thinking about some ugly stuff so Prophet commanded spit thrice towards you left side (remember not literally spitting but a dry spit).
Let me conclude by finishing another saying of the Prophet where in i did not understand it initially but now its so true again.
**'The worship which stands in between Shirk and Kufr is the Prayer' **This is so true in my office there is a gentleman with an Arabic name in the past 8 months i had never seen him pray i thought he was a non-muslim thats my perception but after the Ramadan started i saw him pray for the first time, thats when i realised he is a muslim.
